Hello all... I just ordered my XPS yesterday and subsequently found this forum. I'm bummed to hear about the throttling / heat issues... hopefully they'll fix that soon enough.
Now for my question: Dell was running a promo yesterday (I believe one day only) for like $75 off hard drive upgrades. This looked good, so I placed my order through the banner ad advertising the special. This brought up nearly the same customization options as for ordering an XPS 16 without using the banner ad. The only noticable difference was that the banner include the discount and they added an option there to get the computer in white (not currently an option otherwise). After I placed the order, however, I noticed that they had included a wireless b/g card instead of the standard b/g/n card. This was not an upgradeable option at the time that I purchased.
I wrote to Dell last night and asked them to substitute the cards - but I'm doubtful this will go through. In the event I'm stuck with the b/g card... is it possible to upgrade to the b/g/n card? If so, what card do I need, and how do I do it?
I saw a similar question in a thread below, but not as to the 1645 system.
THANK YOU!

Upgrading the wireless card to the 1645 should be almost, if not, the same as upgrading the 1640 or the 1647.
Aren't they using the same, mini-half sized wireless card? -
I don't know whether it's the same as the 1640 or 1647 - and I don't know what's involved in upgrading those computers.
I found this thread that discusses upgradiing the 1330... not sure if it's the same thing for the 1645 or not: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=452573
Lastly, yes, it uses the mini-half sized wireless card. The card I got was this one: Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini Card. The card I thought I was getting was this one: IntelĀ® 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card.
