I have read though hundreds of pages about replacement laptops and i have a thought...
I think that Dell once they factor in all your criteria, your laptop will be as good as your oddest componant or configuration. Just one item can push you from a 1640 to 1645 - and in some cases a new build vrs a refurb.
In my case- I have a 1640, mine has 1080P, is red, 4gb, 500gb, nothing to special - now I added a t9800, and bluray. which i demanded be part of the new system - These did not come from Dell but would require disassambly to install - which i told Dell was not acceptable. Looking at Dells configs - only the 1645 and 1647 are buildable with Bluray- ( i have seen some 1640s with BD on the outlet- But not in Red and lower processor. So my feeling is that one odd part or unavailable item will really help one in getting a better system
My other system ive had replaced was a D620, with 1.8 c2d, 2gb, 100gb.. Intel Vid. 1440x900 lcd, it was overheating... was offered a replacement about 6 months ago.. the system that arrived. was t9550 ( 2.66 c2d) 4gb ( 1stick) 128 SSD, 1440, Nvidea, dvdrw..... Why so much more system - Mine had a modem when 95% of the e6400s did not- I think that caused the config to move to higher range. I kept watching the outlet site to see what configs were there- and there were many with the p8400, 2-4gb, that would be closer to what i had.. but not everything..... So the specs went up so that all the criterias were meet...
Any truth to this idea - or is it as some say - all up to Dell whimsy?
Should this be considered when buying a new build- add every upgrade ( not the highest but not the default- to make it harder to replace apple to apples in the case of a replacement?
