    Hi All,

I have my 1530 for eight months and have noticed over the last month that the paint on the palmrest has been wearing away.

I was also getting sticky keys on my keyboard so I rang dell to have both replaced. They agreed to send the keyboard but said they would not replace the palmrest as they said this was cosmetic damage?

The laptop get medium use, maybe 2 to 3 hours daily. After a long argument I was advised to call customer care and they said they could and would not replace the part.

I find it hard to beleive that I am not entitled to a replacement after such a short period of time, I have not rung customer care yet but am considering this tomorrow.

Has anyone any thoughts, or come across this problem themselves?

    Thanks In Advance

Just buy a replacement off e-bay. Do a search on the service manual for the m1530. It looks more complicated than it is to replace the palm rest.

I was able to do it on mine.

far2gud - I'm thoroughly confused - paint on the palmrest?? It looks like natural finish brushed aluminum on mine. Are you sure its painted??

call them again. tell them that your dvd drive does not burn some of your dvd's and you want it replaced. they will ask ya if you have any other issues with the computer. tell them the palm rest is really worn out and you are willing to send them some pictures (not normal for aluminum to get worn off so easily). send them pictures and get tell them to replace it.
got it done for me :)

@JellyGeo - it is brushed aluminum, but from sweat, the aluminum can get corroded and you will see places where the metal becomes porous.
