I searched on google "remove dell bloatware" as I can reformat, but I'd prefer not to. This came up, http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2008/03/to-remove-bloat/. Do you think the program will work? It's called PC DeCr@pefier. (Don't wnna filter.) Would it rremove anything I need?
Thanks!

It's not bad..but honestly just doing a clean install works the best

Agreed with Cin'. I wouldn't trust an extra program to remove programs, and a clean install is the best choice anyway.
On a side note, "crap" is not wordfiltered. -
Okay thank you... Should I use the sticky on the Dell forum? I think so except that my sxps didn't come with a mediadirect cd... so...
-
Do not trust any other program that claims to remove bloatware, etc. Often times they are malware themselves. Only a clean install guarantees 100% bloatware-free system.
-
(it should still work w/out using MD)..anyone else comment?

That guide may be a big dated, but it is still relevant and will work. You really don't need to work about the Media Direct part though anymore.
-
Another plus to the clean install is getting all the latest drivers loaded.

If I reformat with the Vista Reinstallation CD that came with my notebook, would it reinstall the bloatware?
-
I used to use PC Decrapifier, but it looks like it may actually have some malware packed in (or perhaps just a false positive, I never saw negative effects on any computers I ran it on).
Regardless, the only third party uninstallation program I trust is Revo Uninstaller. -
I'm gonna reformat but does the DVD that comes with the SXPS reinstall bloatware? Also do I just pop the DVD in the drive, restart, and follow instructions? I'm looking at the Dell Support Site and it shows me instructions, use those?
Also do I need the AHCI driver? -
That DVD does not come with bloatware.
It does not require an AHCI driver, Vista has a generic one that will be used until you install your chipset drivers.
You will need to install all drivers once you have done the install, so be sure you have a way to get the drivers onto that laptop (might wanna download before reformatting, then put them on a flash drive for afterwards. Don't forget to get the latest tweakforce (or whatever your choice of modded drivers is) rather than Dell's weak video card driver offerings. -
I got the Dell Drivers and Utilities Disc. Would that work? and what's tweakforce? And is there any drivers for the 4670?
-
That should work.
However, for best results:
Go to intel and download the intel INF update utility for your chipset drivers,
go to tweakforce for the ATI drivers,
go to synaptic for touchpad drivers,
the rest is not a big deal, you can get them all direct from Dell.
Be sure to download drivers appropriate for your Operating System.
Devices like sound and ethernet might work out of the box, but install the manufacturer drivers anyway, they will be better optimized for your hardware.
If you're not feeling lazy, you can also nab the newest wireless drivers from either Intel or Broadcom, depending on what card you have, but you don't specify, so I don't know. -
All right thanks, I got the standard one. the intel 5100 wireless half mini card
Thanks agan -
Your intel link only gave me graphics acellerators, tweakforce didn't have anything, only synatpics works. And my Vista Exp Score is 1.0 because of graphics.. What ia this? I have 4670

Wait...Dell has bloatware? I never considered anything on my XPS M1530 as bloatware and in fact, I find most pre-installed apps quite useful.
I mean I would see the need for those aforementioned programs for HP and Sony Vaio notebooks which I would call overly-bloatwared, but for Dell I think it's not necessary. -
Would this work?
