I have a xps l501x laptop with a esata/usb port. Is this the same as a esata/p port? In other words what cable do I need to run a sata drive?
    2.5" or 3.5"

A esata cable to sata and an external power supply or a esata/p cable that sends data and power to the drive?
Does it supply 5V and 12V or just 5V?

Is there an owners lounge for the L501x?

I was using esata port to transfer data to and from 2.5inch hard dives successfully without external power supply.

3.5inch drives do not seem to run from it, so for them you might have to get external power supply.

As for your other question look HERE

    Lots of info.
