    Hi folks!

I recently rebuilt an XPS M1730. I upgraded the CPU to an X9000, put an SSD drive in it, upgraded it to 8GB ram, put a blu-ray drive in it, and then replaced all the plastics.

It looks beautiful (obviously); but it has a strange side effect I haven't figured out yet.

Even though the BIOS recognizes the X9000 (and will allow me to set the overclock to 3.2ghz); the CPU itself runs at 800mhz by default.

Needless to say, this sort of defeats the reason why I upgraded the unit!

Any ideas as to why it only wants to run at 800mhz?

Oh, and to make matters even more mysterious; every now and then it will cold boot at 3.2ghz and runs at full speed until the next time it gets reset. A windows reset will actually cause the slowdown; it doesn't require a physical power down.

    Jim

    Edit*

The m1730 can only go as high as 800MHz.
