No I'm in the US. But I ordered it with the 128gb SSD. So you could be waiting on the limited 256gb SSDs. I noticed the Samsung 256gb is hard to find online so maybe there is supply constraints.

I plan to use OneNote. Simply because I understand it can sync the audio recording of a lecture to time stamps in the notes! That's an amazing feature I must have lol.

And no offense to the other guy but I would much rather have the XPS 12 because I hate using Win 8 with no touch screen. And the trackpad issues go completely away if you turn off palm rejection until the update the drivers!

Lies they told you. I just ordered an i7 8gb 128gb in the US and the next day it was already in production. I think the 256GB SSD is what is in high demand. I don't think the US site even lists the i7 with a 256gb option anymore. I plan to replace my 128gb with a crucial m4 256 ssd :)

I think I have finally fixed the WiFi with drivers from Intel rather then Dell as they are a newer version.

Hi I wouldn't worry if I were you, various specs often drop off of dells websites then appear back again a few days later, I ordered the same spec as you 2 days before you and mine went into production last night. If your spec was completely sold out (which is impossible as dell builds the pcs to order and parts can't run out forever) then dell would have to offer you a refund or replacement.

In my opinion dells call centre staff just make up excuses as they go along and every rep has a different story.

Which issues are you referring to? I seemed to make mine run well by turning off power saving on the card itself. I also use an app called slimdrivers that scans all hardware and automatically finds the latest drivers. It too seemed to update my wifi driver to the intel version. Such a great app. It found lots of updates.

So I'm set on an xps 12 now.

I found a refurb deal of $1150 i7/8GB/128GB, and I found $100 off coupon for new XPS 12 from Dell.com, which totals up to $1410 including tax. What do you guys suggest me to do? I am really not determined whether to get new, or get refurb for $250 cheaper. Another advantage of buying refurb is that I do not have to wait for 2 weeks.

    Please help me :)

Mine keeps dropping out, but the connection strength icon shows it as still connected.

Skype disconnects and reconnects in calls.

Still not 100% its the laptop and not my connection or router, still trying to get to the bottom of it.

How did you term off the power saving? Did you wipe and clean install or use the Dell install?

    Hi folks,

Recently got a refurb i5 4gb 128gb XPS 12 - I love the build quality, size, weight, pretty much everything - except the coil whine is making it near impossible to use for any length of time. It's seems a real shame that I'm now considering returning this laptop just because of this 1 minor annoyance, but for something I bought for mainly study and work, an irritating noise like this just might not be tolerable. Has anyone encountered similar sized notebooks without this issues? As I saw the Yoga 13 experiences the same. I'd love to keep this machine, but I don't think I can live with this ear piercing frequency while trying to write essays. I could even live with the misbehaving touch-pad, but the noise is giving me a headache :/

What is the best method for me to get in touch with Dell UK to discuss this? I'm guessing there is no known fix for the coil whine? It's coming from directly under the right side of the keyboard.

I too had the terrible coil whine, so sent it away for a replacement (I also had a faulty button (the windows one just under the screen) ) and the correct number is
08444443904 or if you want a to call from a mobile without being shafted, 01344 373727 is the same. Thats Dell's next day in home and phone premium support.

Did your replacement work better? The last thing I want it to get another xps 12 with the same issue.

That or the noise is too high pitched for your ears, haha :p

Really though, I'm not sure what to so now. I received the laptop on Tuesday, it's already a refurbished one. Is it worth me risking another refurbished replacement? Or should I just return it for a refund and get a different ultrabook all together? Another problem is I couldn't be waiting a week or 2 for dell to send me a machine as I have essays and work to complete. Perhaps I'll call them shortly.

Just phone the 01 number its the same number, infact phone both and listen to the first 30 seconds and it's exactly the same options, so I'd go with the 013 number over 0844 anyday.

And to clarify, I'm still waiting on my replacement (due 10th of April) 130 days and counting.

My system is showing as shipped today.

I'm in the UK and ordered the i7, 8gb, 256 on 14th Jan, my EDD was yesterday 21st Feb and it went Into production around midnight Wednesday 20th Feb.

I guess it will arrive next week some time, I'm surprised its all happened so quick as I was given a revised EDD of 2nd April a few days ago. Though I did complain bitterly and loudly to Dell!

Ps: How long does it take for tracking info to show up? I have a tracking link which just takes me to a blank Walsh western page, I need to make sure someone's home to receive which will be tricky without shipping info.

Hi Dino thanks for your reply. I have a tracking link on my order status page but the link just takes me to a blank Walsh western page, it does say it can take 3 days for any info to show up but 3 days is a bit long to wait for tracking info it could arrive by then! When you contacted the dell rep did he send you a link or did he give you a tracking number to use on the website? When I try to use my customer/order number on the website it says it doesn't match.

He gave me a link with all my info in it, get in touch with Dell and ask them to supply you with a valid link...I think mine took 5 days to arrive but there was a weekend at the tail end of it...

in device manager under network adapter right click the wireless then click properties. In the power tab there uncheck the option to put the adapter to sleep. Also in power settings for the wireless under battery set it to maximum performance if it's happening on battery.

I keep hearing of coil whine with both the xps and way more with the yoga it seems. But still don't understand what it actually sounds like, I guess I didn't have it on my i5 model I had. Maybe it's a good thing I don't know what it sounds like so maybe I will not pay attention lol.

Been lurking for a week or two and have read every single one of the 1024 posts up until now and finally decided to post. The real reason is I just found a new coupon code for the US market and wanted to share it!

Coupon code for $100 off valid until 3/8/13 seems to work on any configuration!
I was looking at the XPS 13 and was waiting to pull the trigger until the new full HD screens came out but I was dismayed that the only options with that screen were the 256gb ones which don't seem like they're worth the extra $300 (to me). Then I decided the XPS 12 would be interesting to try as we don't have a tablet and this will probably get some use in bed, on the couch, in the kitchen, on a plane, etc, (understanding and appreciating this is NOT a true tablet) in addition to being a pretty kick- workhorse.

This past weekend when the i7/8gb/128gb was $100 off for President's day I finally bit with an additional $75 cashback from Fatwallet with their "6% cashback sale" instead of the normal 2% back. Estimated delivery is 2/27/13 but according to the site it went into production yesterday so we'll see. I figure the i7 and the 8gb are the most important and if I need to I'll upgrade the SSD down the road since it seems pretty easy to do.

Will keep you all posted as to what it's like as to build quality/touchpad/coil whine/etc!

Dell just emailed me updated tracking info and apparently my system will be delivered Monday which is pretty quick as it was only shipped yesterday. So I will be receiving it on the 25th only 4 days after my original EDD. Bit better than the 2nd April date I was given a few days ago!

I had the same issue with a Asus Zenbook Prime, tried everything. Returned it and got the XPS12, clean install when I got home as I did with the Asus, no problem's with the Dell. Maybe reinstall the chipset? I didn't install the rapid start tech or the Intel rapid storage on the dell. On the Asus, the usb would work if I rebooted with the drive inserted. Their tech support was useless.

I have a question about Dell's Exchange program. My xps 12 (i7 8gb ram) had a hardware problem where the headphone jack wasn't working. Dell decided to exchange my faulty laptop with a another xps 12. Over the phone I asked him if this system is new and not refurbished, and they said new. I received my exchange laptop less than a week ago and after a couple days I've noticed a few scratches on the brushed aluminum bezel. There were also some marks elsewhere. I know this wasn't done by me as I never even took it out of the house. I only plugged it in, charged it and turned it on a few times, then left it on my empty table. Is there a way to argue this? What should I do about this.

I feel so bad for you guys in other counties besides the US, seems like dell just screws over all other countries. They even do in the US sometimes... and what's sad is that they're the lesser of the evils(in the PC market at least).

    Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone is still having any problems with the touchpad. Mine just quits responding, cursor won't move, can't tap or click. I wait 5 seconds and then it starts working again. I'm on driver A04 and have had the same problem with all the drivers.
Do you think it's a bad touchpad, or the driver isn't fixed yet?
