I have 2 questions regarding this laptop.
1. I have an i7 version and I want to enable turbo boost but for the life of me I cannot figure it out. Does it automatically enable when the load is high? or is it an option I have to enable?
2. I tried installing WiDi software and it wouldn't install. I heard somewhere that this laptop comes with WiDi so I'm not sure if it isn't working because it is already installed, but I cannot find anything on my system about it.

Took me some time to figure out how to get WIDI installed and working. Certain version combinations will cause you CPU to run at 100%. I finally worked out a combination of software that works great on my WIDI receiver.
works without the 100C%CPU issue:
Intel HD Graphics 9.17.10.0267
intel WIDI 3.5.40.0
intel proset/wireless 15.0.1.000
Let me know if this works for you. -

I'd also like to know if there is any particular bloatware I can easily remove without causing problems. Also, how easy is a clean install of Windows 8 on this machine or is it even worth it/?
The fan seems to be a little loud at times, seemingly random. Is this a known issue and/or has there been a fix? And the text is very small due to the resolution, is there and easy way to enlarge overall text without messing with display?
Sorry for all the questions. Overall, its a really cool machine, surprisingly I find I really like the keyboard.
Thanks for any help! -
I have the i7, 8 gb, 256 gb model. Whenever I boot up, I receive a message that Intel Rapid Start Technology is not enabled. On the BIOS menu, I can't enable it. Any one else have this issue? Is it important?

I have had my Best Buy XPS for almost a month now, It was an open box item that was open once to show a customer since they didn't have one on display and I paid $714.99 for it. Loving it but then I notice the wifi speeds were slow, I have 30 MBps down but the XPS was not even hitting 10 Mbps down. I updated all drivers and mess with my router like crazy for days.
My old Sony laptop and phone sitting next to my XPS would pull 30 down every time. Well today I decided to try Bluetooth out with my phone then I figured I would turn it off on the XPS to save battery, Once I turned it off my speeds instantly went to 30 down on all test I ran, even pulled 40 down a few times.
I turn Bluetooth back on ran same test and once again couldn't pull 10 down but once it was off it was back at my isp limit. Just chipping in some info for people that are having slow wifi, maybe it will help ya out. -

Let me tell my exprerience with the XPS 12 in a few words: ordered mid-january 2013, arrived end of feb 2013, not workking, didn't even start up. Had to send it back and wait another 6 weeks for replacement. By the way the delivery goes through a company mandated by Dell and this company is not able to tell you when they show up. No phone or mail contact so I had to have someone wait for the "postman" on two occasions. This is in Switzerland and I can tell you that the normal pathways are quite efficient.
Since then every time I use the laptop, I am upset by problems with the trackpad (no responses for a few seconds) or the WiFi (doesn't consistently connect to my network). But the main issue is that the fan kicks in every few seconds for another few seconds, although I am mainly using it for word processing and Internet connexion. And the is noisy, VERY NOISY.
At this time, that is one month after having recieved it, I am so fed up with this device that I am already considering to buy something else. Ouch!! Never ever again wth Dell. -
Has anyone had any experience deploying Windows 8 through MDT 2012 to these devices? I did initial testing on an XPS 12 back in February which was successful but I just received a batch of two and can't seem to get past the part in the task sequence where it creates partitions and formats the hard drive. It just hangs on "creating partition 0". Right now this imaging process works on the older XPS 12 I have and all of my other devices but the two new XPS 12's I received. I'm about to receive 22 more any day now and really don't want to have to install them the old fashioned way
. I have a call into Dell and Microsoft, just thought I would ask to see if anyone else has noticed this problem here.
Thank you! -
does anyone know how to enable turbo boost for the cpu?

So has there been a definitive resolution to the touchscreen issues? I don't see really anyone posting about it anymore. Mine worked great initially, then seemed to work partially after I installed some Razer drivers for a blue tooth mouse, then stopped working altogether a few months ago. I gave up for a bit on resolving it, but still don't really see a solution. I had the latest of everything from each driver company, and now have the latest from Dell only (going back a few versions in some cases).
Anyway, does anyone know if there's an actual solution out there, or are people just getting replacements from Dell? -
i have a brand new xps 12 (i5, 8, 256, italy) with the same wifi issue i ve seen reported on this thread.
i tried to update wifi driver with the newest on intell support page (version 15.6) and wifi connection is well performing but drops every single minute during download; with the driver found on dell site (15.5) the connection looks much more stable and reliable but with poorer performances.
i also tried the power management suggestions mentioned earlier on this thread.
any other suggestion? -
I had many of the same issues with wifi when I updated all drivers trying to fix the touchscreen issue. What worked for me in particular was rolling back to 15.5.6.48. Didn't have an issue prior to updating, and haven't had an issue since rolling back.

Does anyone have bad experience using a capacitive stylus on this Dell xps 12, I tried to write note on it using differents app and different stylus but it produces a lot of Jagged and discontinuous lines

Thanks again for your recommendation, I've been waiting for an answer for so long -
Good luck. -
Turbo seems to be active on mine. Download HWInfo and check it out.

Guys, I have a issue with my dell xps12, can anyone help me understand whether its normal for the bottom left side of my notebooks screen to get heated ?
and if its an issue can i seek a replacement ? -
Assuming not all the people speak spanish, just execute regedit, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TouchPrediction and change Latency and SampleTime from 8 to 2 or 1. It works better, but not like other convertible (sony, toshiba...) -
Hey guys so I've ordered my XPS 12, and it's an i7 3667u. Now I've looked around and can't determine if Dell ever officially released the XPS 12 with an i7 3667u. I know that the test models had this CPU and what I want to know is whether I necessarily have bought a test model or if I could have a legit copy? Thanks!

Well, the new Haswell XPS 12 refresh has been announced. Same body design, with no new ports or any other external differences. The only internal changes (Haswell chip aside) seem to be a 50Wh battery (up from 47) and an NFC chip (will anyone use this?) The display will apparently remain 1080p, which is a little odd given that the just-announced XPS 11 convertible laptop (fold-over style like the Lenovo Yoga) will have a 1440p screen. 512 SSDs will also be available. Ships in about a month.
Fingers crossed for a better (non-Cypress) touchpad and a wifi chip without issues, but that seems unlikely if the basic design isn't changing at all.
Since a Haswell XPS 13 will be required to have a touchscreen (at least if it wants to keep the ultrabook branding), I wonder how that'll affect interest in the 12. -
Looks like new wireless drivers from intel (15.8) - so far no issues using them.

Is it ok to delete all of the partitions on the hd so that there is more space for windows. I plan on making the restore USB key before I delete all of the partitions. Should I use the built in windows 8 tools built in or the dell recovery tool ? I new to windows 8 as I just bought the laptop 3 days ago. Thanks

Also there is a newer trackpad driver that so far seems to be working much better but you have to change all your settings again as they reset after upgrade. I also lost the two finger tap to right click. but a couple reboots fixed it. -

Has the touchscreen issue been resolved people?
I have read back the last 15 pages and hardly any issues reports so hoping so.
Mine died this morning. I fiddled for a bit to no avail. I decided to start free and booted from the Dell Recovery Key. In the Dell Recovery menu the touchscreen worked 100% so I was hopeful. As soon as the restore was done and I was back in Windows, it was dead again?
Anyone got any ideas? -
-
I can do a full reboot and my screen remains dead. Not sure if mine is related to the sleep issue.
If I use the Dell Recovery Key and boot into recovery, the touch screen works there. So it does not appear to be hardware related.
EDIT: Just tested it again now quickly. Put in the USB Key, rebooted, tapped F12 at Dell logo, selected USB Key and waited for the recovery screen to show. No problem with touchscreen. Everything I selected worked great.
Rebooted back into windows and stone dead again.
I have noticed no tablet icon in my control panel too. Seems Windows just won't recognise the touchscreen at all. -
I am having the same issue with the touchscreen being dead and not responding at all. It started a few days ago. My computer popped up with a message "USB cannot be recognised". In device manager I now have an unknown device:
I think it is quite bizarre that a number of people are having the same issue recently. It worked perfect for me 3 days ago, but something happened in the last 2 days which is preventing Windows 8 from recognizing the touch screen. Did Windows 8 or Dell update something that has killed the touch screen? -
Can anyone confirm if the new Dell Touchpad Driver (version 2.5.1.47, A06, 6/3/2013) has resolved the touchpad issue?
I contacted Dell and they said that the issue has been solved and there shouldn't be any problems. -

After testing all day, I will say that the new touchpad driver is fantastic. Even with palm rejection on and sensitivity at the default middle setting, I no longer have any touch issues. Previously, and this was easily reproducible, if I would type something on the keyboard, I would be unable to tap to click for a few seconds. Now I can go straight from typing to tapping and it works every time.
I have to admit, I didn't think Dell would care enough to update this driver anymore, but they really surprised me here. Thank you, Dell. -
Wow, I'm impressed. Looks like i will be buying an xps 12 soon, justing waiting for their haswell release. Any insights?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some sort of stand for my XPS 12 to hold it vertically next to my monitors. I had something similar to this for my iPad and I'd like something to prop up the XPS 12 to use it vertically as a reading device while I code/design on my dual IPS setup: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/313OEHw+WgL.jpg . Any ideas on something that may work?
-
To be clear, though, what do you mean by "no touch issues"? Phantom clicks don't happen any more? The random non-responsiveness doesn't happen? Do gentle swipes still get ignored sometimes because it's not sensitive enough?
Anyone else care to share their experiences with the new driver? I'll take any info I can get -- this might well sell me a laptop =) -
Hi
I'm thinking of buying the XPS 12 and would be grateful for some advice. I like the form factor of the swivel touch screen and prefer it over the over the Yoga type and the new XPS due out later this year where the keyboard is face down when you are using it as a tablet.
Unfortunately, 256Gb SSD is not enough for my purposes and I do not want to have to use an external HDD. I understand that the SSD is user-upgradeable. Has anyone tried it with the Crucial 960Gb M500 SSD? The Crucial webside says that the 480Gbb M500 is compatible but does not mention the 960Gb. I'd like to know whether I could instal the 960Gb version.
TIA
norm -
The 960GB M500 is not compatible as it is only available as a 2.5" SATA drive. The XPS 12 takes an mSATA drive so the biggest crucial drive you'll be able to use is the 480GB - but make sure it's the mSATA version!
-
And I guess I better wait for the new model with Haswell. One report said it will be 9 July but most others don't have a date. I hope it's true. -
Apparently, the new dell xps 12 (haswell) can be ugrared up to 512gb.

Quick question. Am I right that the XPS 12 does not have an SD card slot? I thought virtually all modern laptops have one. That might be a deal breaker for me as I was looking to use it as a means of adding 'internal' storage. I do like the form factor of the screen but it seems a very strange decision not to include an SD card slot. And it doesn't look like the Haswell version makes any changes to the hardware other than processor and max SSD size.

Fantastic laptop...I don't know how I got this far in life w/o it.
As for HD space, just delete things once you no longer need them! I know people like to hold on to things they've downloaded...but fight that urge! You can do it--I believe in you Norm!
