im thinking of buying an XPS 1210 this week and im definitely planning on upgrading the CPU in it (its going to be a CS:Source box, 32+ man servers),

so what's the fastest thing that will go in there?
im thinking of putting in a T9500 2.6ghz Penryn

the one im looking at has a 1.8ghz Core Duo btw

Nope. The best possible proc that'll go in there is the T7600. Much better than the core duo one, but nowhere near the T9600, based on performance/TDP..

Because the Bios and the Chipset doesn't support the Penry CPUs!

@sesshomaru: any reason not to get the T2700 2.33ghz over the T7600 2.33ghz? would there be a noticeable difference in counter-strike due to the 2mb more cache?

from what ive read there wouldnt, and the price difference is about $100

64 bit, for one.. I have switched to Vista x64, and linux x64.. It is far more stable..

CS wouldn't see a difference either way.. I doubt if any game would..

Synthetic benchmarks(search for them if you have the time), put similarly clocked C2Ds about 10-12% ahead of the CDs..
