I believe the fan comes on strong when charging to speed up rapid charging as I have noticed when turned off the laptop charges slowly as opposed to when it is running. The fan does stop when it hits around 90% otherwise it is dead silent 99% of the time. Maybe dell will release update for those who are bothered by it. Dell i7 touch version.

What displays do you have? From what I've read, the QHD+ version seem to have a lot more problems with fans than the FullHD version. Seems to be the same with battery as well, QHD+ consumes a lot more power than FullHD.

I had to "refresh" windows, fan noise is gone. I didn't have much installed on my computer except AVG, MS Office 2010, and chrome x64. Just installed Chrome 32bit and no fan noise yet. I'm thinking it was AVG rather than MS Office 2010.

FYI, my fan was running full tilt under 3% load and 43C.

I've xps 13 developer edition with ubuntu, it's very noisy. What do you suggest to alleviate it ? Can opening and cleaning fan will solve the problem ?

With Windows 10, I used the 'Reset this PC / Keep Existing Files' option, and it has helped. It lists all the programs it will uninstall first, and it might have been something like the Intel Thermal...'. I'm OK with whatever risk not having this installed might bring.

Hi, is it really the case that after BIOS update to A02, the fan is silent? Anyone please let me konw. I want to buy this XPS 13 2015 i5 version and the fan issue must have a solution for me to buy it. Thanks

Do you plan to buy the early 2015 edition, or the late 2015 Skylake variant? Because the latter doesn't have any fan issue afaik. (Typing this from mine, and the fan is silent.)
