Ever since I got my XPS 13 (infinity display), non-touch i5 laptop with 1920x1080 matte screen, I have noticed strange and intermittent pixelation / blurriness on certain icons or dialogue boxes that pop up. My feeling is that it's a Windows formatting issue, but I called Dell and they said they would replace the screen. After replacing the screen, there is no improvement on this issue...What's worse, is that I feel that the resolution of the screen is lower overall. It's hard to say for sure, but it seems like the text that I'm typing right now is slightly more pixelated than before. Note: This is an entirely distinct problem from the first one mentioned above. Is it possible they installed the wrong panel? The two panels looked exactly the same out of the box.
When I go to whatismyscreenresolution.com, it says that my display is 720x1080, whereas my laptop is set for 1080x1920. Any ideas why this is so?
I'm attaching a screenshot. This is really bugging me. Based on eyesight, it's hard to say whether my screen has indeed been reduced to a 720p laptop, since I can't compare another XPS 13 side by side. Windows has it set for 1080p...Should I trust the Windows information or the website above?

Your first issue may have been caused by windows 8.1's awful scaling technique. I don't have any idea what is going on with your display now
.
You could try running a game at 1920x1080, from my experience trying to set a game to run at a resolution above what your panel supports causes the game to crash.
Another way to test would be stick Ubuntu on a flash drive, boot it and see how linux detects your screen.
In general I trust linux > windows > whatis* internet sites. -
I'm not sure what's causing your display problem but I can help you to understand that resolution mumbo-jumbo numbers.
The whatismyscreenresolution.com is going to give you correct screen resolution 1920x1080 if you change text size to 100%. Once you have it set text size to Medium, Large or even custom size you will get equivalent numbers corresponding to resolution.
I run that test on mine i5 , FHD under Win 7 and it behaves exactly like that.
Have you tried to reload correct video drivers?, update BIOS to latest A04? or even Win 8.1 complete reinstall?
I would do that before I let Dell touch it.Last edited: Jun 25, 2015
