    Dell advertises

In reviews it is also mentioned that the FHD is really bright. However, check the following picture.

    - HP Stream (165 nits, according to reviews)
    - XPS 15 (around 350 nits according to reviews)
    - XPS 13 FHD (Dell website says 350 nits)

I suspect something is not right with the screen.

The real subjective perceptual experience in a normal room is a bit lighter (I put all almost all lights off in the room). Nonetheless, there is a clear difference between the XPS 13 and XPS 15 which should in theory have the same brightness. Also, the XPS 13 seems to have similar (or less) brightness as the HP Stream 11.

Would this be a legitimate reason to ask for a new screen?

    (1) All laptops are on 100%. Please tell me your experiences with brightness.

    (2) I just noticed that putting "Adaptive Brightness" ON or OFF in windows doesn't make a difference. I already put it OFF before the test. I put it now ON (for testing), but no difference. The ON/OFF options give same result, and my laptop seems to be stuck on what represents the OFF option. Can someone check on their XPS 13 if the ON/OFF option makes any difference? cf.

I got a QHD. I never put the brightness down to anything but 100%.

To be honest, with glare screen, it's not that bright.. 300-350nit I think is about right.

    Hey,

I got the FHD Model for review and I'm measuring around 300 nits brightness. Didn't get the QHD+ Version yet, maybe its brighter because of IGZO Technology. Dell states it should be 400 nits for both in the official reviewers guide. Product Management told me there's no way to turn off adaptive contrast enhancement and they are using only one vendor, its a sharp 1420 . Ive seen reviews where this panel reached 400 nit and Im not sure if this difference comes with Bios Version A03 or maybe its the measureing tools/unit quality of the panel.

So some more experiences here would be useful.

If the screen on the left is actually 165 nits, then you have a defective unit or some kind of software issue and should absolutely get it serviced or replaced. Like the other posters, my screen is uncomfortably bright in a dark room on a white background at full brightness. It's even uncomfortably bright at 60% brightness if not in a well-lit room. The screen dims considerably on darker content (the ongoing complaint), but on white backgrounds brightness should increase. It's almost like yours is stuck in the dimmed state for some reason. Maybe try a system reset first (which tech support will ask you to do anyway) and then try to get it replaced if that doesn't work.

I found my FHD strangely dim too. Both my tablet and phone are substantially brighter (all on 100%). I routinely found 100% brightness too dim for typical office lighting.

My replacement (for other issues) should be arriving soon so it'll be interesting to see if there's a difference.
