    Hey there guys,

i got my new XPS 13 four days ago. It has the i7, 16gb RAM, the intel IRIS HD 540 and the QHD resolution. So far it´s a great Notebook, well build and the screen is amazing as expected.

    But the fan noise...

I had a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga i7 before, which usually kicked in the fan every now and then, but never constantly running. The XPS one is running pretty much all the time and i honestly don´t know what to do - is this CPU too powerful for the Notebook and it simply has to run the fan all the time or is there a way to change this issue?

    Any ideas?

Btw, the CPU Package has round about 65-70 celsius (hw info and aida64) while a core clock of ~800 MHz and an usage of ~5%... Fan spinning with 3600 RPM

I think that is definitely not normal. You should give dell a call and maybe return it. Probably the heat sink is not not making full contact with the cpu

yeah I vote for not normal as well. You can either have dell fix it, or you could try to repaste it yourself.

The idle temps without doing anything are around 50 degree celsius, two tabs in chrome and it´s goes up to 70.

Can anyone with the IRIS model tell me their idle temps?

I just had a dell technician here and he changed the cooler and the fan - even applied better cooling paste.

But still, idle temp while writing this without anything in the background is at 65-70 degree celsius and the fan is constantly spinning at 3600 RPM.

Seems like the IRIS/i7 Combo ist simply too hot for this small device...

Looks like you have a really bad chip, now you have had an attempted fix I suggest you ask for a new replacement or a refund (to prompt a replacement as they hate refunding)

Well, i think you´re right with the bad chip :)

The technician did a good job, right after he had installed the new cooler/fan we tested the XPS and everything worked fine (except for the idle temps ~65).

I used it for aroud half an hour and rebooted, afterwards it gave me this screen right after powering on:

..... seems Dell still have issues with reliability :(
I owned the xps 13 9343 (previous one), and it was a nightmare... first one has a rattling fan, and missing screws, changed it. Everything went fine with the new one for 3 or 4 month, then I had to change the motherboard 3 times before having a working computer ....
Ended up in selling it, I just couldn't see it anymore.

Hope for you it'll be a new device, because most of the time "new mainboard" for Dell means "refurbished one with a problem maybe the new owner won't notice" .... :(

Fan noise with XPS 9350 i7 IRIS 540 is very annoying.
It's silent when doing nothing, but as soon as doing light tasks like watching youtube the fan kicks in and gets too loud.
I read the temps with Intel Extreme Tool and don't understand why Dell lets the fan start at ~50°C.
So hoping for a BIOS Update for Iris version to raise fan start temps (e.g +5°C).

Installed new Dell Power Manager 2.1.0 for 9350 and set my XPS to Quiet. Fan does stop for 1 sec then starts again like at Balanced setting.

Does this install ok on the xps 3950 as it states "
This package provides Dell Command | Power Manager and is supported on Latitude, Precision and Dell Venue 11 Pro models running the following Operating Systems: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. "

XPS 9350 is listed under supported devices under the download link. Working fine, even shows many battery stats and health. Will be sitting in energy saving taskbar icon as add-on.
