I have a question for owners of the new XPS 13 – does the Dell logo on the front stick out at all above the surface level of the laptop or is it completely flat and recessed? If it even sticks out a fraction of a mm I want to know.

I want to commission a design for a thin icon to then be 3d printed and glued in place to cover the logo. I could get it made with a gap underneath the middle if the existing logo sticks out a bit, but it’ll glue on better if it doesn’t need to and can be completely flat, as there’ll be more surface area in contact.

If I can scrape together the pennies I’m considering getting an engraved and personalised XPS as a somewhat extravagant Christmas present for a friend who could do with a laptop and I want to get going with getting the icon made before getting the laptop itself, as it’s going to be rather late and that part will take the longest.

Also, how large across is the Dell logo? I'll need to make sure the icon is larger to cover it.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

If it's like the new XPS 15 9550 it's recessed very slightly - I can just feel the recess when running my finger over it.. Appears aluminum case is ground down (which is why it's recessed) and some black inlay/paint is used to form Dell logo.

Using a XPS 13 9350 right now - the logo is very slightly recessed.
