Don't want to open new thread, so I'm gonna ask here, since it has to do with scrolling. Scrolling in Chrome to be more precise. In general I'm quite happy with touchpad and scrolling, but what is going on in Chrome is beyond absurd. It lags like hell. Both directions. Ttried turning on and off smooth scrolling in chrome settings, I've also tried that addon in Chrome...Nothing helps! It is driving me crazy. I can't normally browse internet on one of the most expensive laptops around.
Does anybody else have that problem? Is there any solution to it, should I try this guide and install Synapticts driver?

For those who are having touchpad issues and have chalked it up to the driver or just a bad design, etc (scrolling issues, responsiveness, etc):

Bought this a couple weeks ago refurbished on eBay, had same issues - contacted for warranty repair and touchpad was replaced today....not a single issue now! Same model touchpad, same driver (have tried both windows PTP and Synaptics). Everything just works beautifully now. Like it more than my previous MacBook Air's touchpad and that's saying a lot (used Windows with the MacBook). Just an absolute pleasure to use now (using regular PTP driver)

It may be worth it to get the touchpad replaced if you're having any issues. Completely resolved every single one for me.

Even the lack of small movements as originally stated in the OP? My 2 year old Acer laptop with PTP also has the lack of small movements, so I thought it was a universal issue. But if a different physical touchpad fixes it, then I will consider contacting customer support.

Finally got this pad in a place I am satisfied with. I didn't like the Synaptics driver because I couldn't use task view (3 finger swipe up) and the TPT driver does not allow for three finger back and forward.

I got autohotkey working with the three finger press gesture with the Synaptics driver so when clicking with three fingers, win-tab (task view) pops up. If you have questions or need help with AHK, feel free to send a PM. It has a bit of a learning curve, but really works well and I don't mind helping folks with scripts.

First...THANKS to the author for posting this. I bought my XPS 13 used and the touchpad was great except with browsers (scrolling). I found even more updated drivers at stations-drivers and installed those. Works fine. Different GUI and may have a few additional features. In addition, I found that if you go to Syaptics web page, download the I2C driver as well, and replace the I2C HID driver with this one, you don't need to have both I2C and HID Touchpad disabled. The HID Touchpad entry will go away upon restart and leaves your Device Manager nice and clean without a bunch of disabled devices causing the lists to be expanded. Just something for the OCD :) Thanks again...the issue was annoying me...and Dell Support wouldn't acknowledge that the Windows generic driver wasn't good with their touchpad.

Running the anniversary update I can confirm that the touchpad now reacts to small movements. But the pointer returns to its starting position if it isn't moved over the old threshold, it seems.

I posted the same issue on /r/windows10: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/4vw0lr/bug_precision_touchpad_jerking_when_moving_small/

But it seems many issues/bugs are downvoted and ignored unless it's a visual bug (like white borders on a black window). It gets pretty annoying when I'm trying to hit "Sleep" but my cursor moves to "Shut Down" or if I'm trying to maximize my window but my cursor jerks to exit.

    Hi,
I have Dell XPS 15 9550 4K screen now. I installed the Synaptics driver as instructed. There is one issue, the moving speed is too slow, the Max speed is slow. I can't find the file in SynTP.
"If the maximum speed from Synaptics is not enough, you can change it yourself by modifying the value of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM3038\PointerMotionSpeed in the registry. The maximum you can get with the Synaptics settings is 400 (decimal), I set it to 2048 (decimal) and rebooted. (if afterwards you change anything in the Synaptics settings, this value will be overridden to 400 again, so don't change any Synaptics settings after that)"

What should I do for this?

Your touchpad will work like a charm !
    - No more delay when moving the cursor
    - It has so many parameters to tweak you touchpad as you like
    - No dead zones for both scroll and cursor move
    - Excellent scrolling performance
    - All 2/3-finger gestures are working

    Source :[/QUOTE]
    Hi All!

I know this is quite all but i need to join the discussion just to tell you that this fix is not ultimated:
I still have some issues here. I did all steps and getting a non "DELL SYNAPTICS" programm installed (as intended to be).
I have the dell xps 15 9530, my friend has the 9550. He has the gestures menu saying that he has the "PRECISION TOUCHPAD" [IMG]
I have not. Why? Please help! I reached a tiny hotfix using this SW: https://www.multiswipe.com/ but for example the change of virtual desktops in particular is not working as a gesture native mode.

    :vbconfused:

Just unboxed my new 9350 today and the first thing I noticed was my touchpad wasn't registering small movments. I followed the steps here including bumping the pointer speed up to 2048 decimal via the registry.

The current issue I am having is my cursors moves unpredictably, sometimes the same finger motion will make the cursor move quite a bit more or less than expected. I tried with enhanced pointer preceision both on and off.

    Not sure what to do?

edit: Also, when I drag my finger diagonally, the pointer zig-zags itself diagonally down the screen =S

edit2: I've gone back to the way it came out of the box for now. It's amazing how the touchpad doesn't register obvious finger movements, night and day compared to my ZenBook... I thought I was upgrading =(

    Hello everyone!
While I was writing down a Powershell script to save all my trackpad settings (in case they'll be overwritten by some w10 update) I thought that if we manage to get a description of what each registry key entry of the synaptic drivers do, we would be able to get a super powerful customization of this trackpad.

Unfortunately I didn't have much luck in finding an exaplanation of such entries. Does anyone know if there's any place having these info?

WIN+TAB toggles task view though it is not so convenient as 3 finger swipe up.

I was having major issues scrolling in web browsers, so I tried this method. I was so happy because it was working so much better... but only for a few minutes. Then, it got progessively worse. I had to uninstall everything and put it back to what it used to be... and now everything is working better again. Go figure... lets see if this good behavior continues lol. I'm so annoyed with the little problems this laptop has. smh

Hi, I prefer this driver over what is offrets by MS and Dell.
I made all Registry hacks described here, works really good!

When I was in the registry I found some keys mentioning left/right/middle buttons. There is one key MiddleButtonZoneFlags that is 0 by default, I tried to set it to 1 and restart but no luck, it goes back to 0.

Anyone managed to get the third button working?

Yes, it has some nice new gestures. You can configure them better now, for example, you can swipe with three fingers up and down to set the Audio volume

But is the trackpad itself working well now? Is there lack of precision still? Does the cursor jump around randomly? Is the default driver better than the Synaptics driver now?

The default driver seems to function perfectly now. You can make small movements fine now and there's no jumping. It's about time, but it's fixed!

I still have the same problem with creators update. The trackpad works fine except after wake up from sleep. There is something that creates conflict with the trackpad after the sleep mode.

I don't have any wake up issue but now that the Creators update wiped my Synaptics driver I have quite bad rubber-banding while scrolling in Firefox.

Otherwise the windows driver seems okay. Any specific registry or setting fix for this? I have pinch to zoom off.

Hey guys, I'm not able to install this. I followed the instructions carefully. They seem pretty basic. I disabled the first, then the second one. Followed how to install, but Windows is giving me error and says it just encountered problem with installing the driver.

I have an XPS 15 9560. I just got it today, with 512SSD Toshiba, 4K display.

    Here is the error given:

    How do I fix this?
    Please help, thank you!

PS. Sorry for the big picture.

Have you considered having the touchpad replaced? I tried everything to fix the bouncing and lagging on my 9350, including installing the Synaptics drivers. But the only thing that worked was having Dell replace the touchpad. Haven't had a problem since.

The new Windows 10 updates have improved the touchpad and provided new options to customize gestures. Two-finger scrolling seems smoother and I can finally, FINALLY, use three-finger swipe to navigate forward and backward.
