So looks like you can get the XPS 13 with Win10 today. I've been looking to replace my old HP DM1Z and I like the XPS 13 specs: small for the screen size, SSD, decent battery, matte screen. My only worries were the trackpad since those issues drive me nuts. And now in the description for teh new Win10 model, I don't see the screen described as matte. Assuming it is matte, is it pretty bright, usable outside in the sun bright?

The XPS 13 comes with two different screen options

One is a 13" 3200x1800 touchscreen model, with glossy screen. The other is a 13" 1920x1080 non-touch with matte screen.

Between the two, I'd recommend the 1080p model for multiple reasons:

    1) 1080p model has lower DPI. The 1800p version is something I'd consider to be too pixel-dense, leading to problems in font scaling.

2). The 1080p version gets significantly more battery life. (7 hours touchscreen vs 11 hours non-touch).

3). The 1080p version is $300 cheaper than a similarly speced 1800p version.

4). 1080p model is matte, though this last point comes down to personal preference instead of hard advantage.

Sorry, yes I would be getting the 1080P screen for all the reasons you mention.

This point can't be highlighted enough. I had the Lenovo Y50 4K and scaling was a serious issue. A lot of the dialog boxes were scaled down to less than 50% of the usual size, making it more difficult than necessary to see what was going on. I've never had a problem in the past with small font on 1080p.

Re-Installing Windows was a pain... I had to assume I was typing the right Windows Key; it was hard to see the characters I was typing.

Well my new XPS 13 came in!! Pretty happy so far: matte screen and the trackpad seems really decent. And the size is fantastic!
