XPS 13 or m1330? Is the XPS 13 replacing the 1330?

So I'll be looking to pick up a new laptop within the next 2-5 months. I've had my eye on the xps 13 and m1330. I'm not sure which one would be a better deal for me.

Personally, I like the way the m1330 looks. Its also cheaper (esp since there are so many on ebay). However, from what I'm seeing is that it has outdated hardware, esp when put next to the xps 13. It still has a 8400MGS... which was available when I got my Vostro 2 years ago.

Are they going to update the m1330? Add in a 9-series video card and P-series C2D?

Personally, I am not too big of a fan of the xps 13. From what I'm hearing, its slightly heavier, and has heating problems. I also think it's uglier (not to mention the random piece of leather on the back).

But it seems like the xps13 right now would be a better investment, since it incorporates newer features. Also, it has the backlit keyboard and square keys, which I think is pretty cool (not that i need it, I touch type anyway).

Also, is the wrist area on the XPS 13 plastic? Personally I want that piece to be metal, like the m1330 (should be more resistant to wear).

And is getting the LED worth it? What are the battery savings?

The M1330 is dead. The only reason it is still around is because Dell must have an excess stock of old parts. I would not get it over the 13, unless you can't afford a 13. LED screen is very worth it if you want better brightness and lower power usage.

They're dropping the m1330? Is that confirmed?

If so it would be such a shame since its so much sleeker, lighter, and just better looking than the XPS 13.

Or is there another dedicated successor to the m1330?

The Studio XPS 13 is the sucessor to the M1330. Sony replaced the SZ with the SR and Z. The M1210 got replaced by the M1330, which should have been replaced by the 13, but as I said above, Dell must have excess stock of old Montevina parts.

m1330's still here and strong.... got a promo catalog from dell (physically mailed), xps m1330+m1530 still in the catalog... dont think they're going anywhere soon

but then... it means that they'll probably have parts for m1330 in 3 years(when my warranty runs out..... :(

(and m1330 isn't montevina... its Santa Rosa Penyrn)

M1330 is gone now here in Dell Japan website. Last week or two it was still there with pricing "Call to get price".

Yeah, but the m1330 still has old tech. I just checked out a Sony Z at Best Buy... the thing is super nice and super light. And I might be able to pick one up on ebay easily.

    What's better, a 8400M GS or a 9300M GS?
