    Hi guys,

I recently had the Nvidia GPU failure on my XPS 1330 that a lot of people seem to get after 1.5 years of owning the laptop. Dell came out the next day and swapped the motherboard for a different one.

The only thing is, the motherboard they put in is a Rev:A00 which I assume is the very first revision? Not sure what I had in before but I'm noticing that the laptop is running very hot when just idling.

My CPU in an Intel T7500.

I am running Speedfan and even though CPU is very low, Temp1 is reporting 72C. Is this normal or is the laptop running hotter than it should?

I have got the A15 bios installed and am not using my cooler at the moment. Even without a cooler 72C isn't right surely?

Bit worried that the A00 motherboard has issues that cause the high temp's.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    ** EDIT **
I just realised I was looking at the wrong read out. In Speedfan, Core 0 and 1 are showing at around 55C idle which I'm sure is fine.
The laptop just feels so much hotter than it was though - both areas of the hand rest are roasting including the touchpad.

Do different motherboard revisions cause different temperatures on the hand rest etc?

Try cleaning the fan unit will have a build up of dust etc, Dell should of replaced the fan unit also but this depends on the Tec support.
If your still having a high build up of heat around your mouse area call Dell and let them know your not happy with the replacement may be ask for a rev A04 and a fan unit.
Did the tec replace the thermal pads and apply thermal paste?

    Hey there,

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at the fan and see what condition it is in. I think they only changed the m/b.

I didn't see what he was doing fully but think he did apply some thermal paste if I remember rightly.

Good idea on asking for a replacement fan unit and updated M/B. Will see how it goes. Certainly far too hot when not using my cooler - which keeps the CPU idling about 50c.

Once you get your replacements done I would do the Copper mod (Heatsink mod) and use thermal paste Arctic Cooling MX-2 OR MX-3.
Notice you have Win7 Ult, if I were you I use audio drivers from SXPS 1645 along with the media card drivers and update BT drivers for broadcom 6.2.0.8900 drivers.
Good luck with you replacement yet again.

Have they updated the fan/heatsink? I'm still using the original. They haven't changed it after 2 mobo replacements.

My only concern with making the copper mod is that it will invalidate my warranty although adding some Artic silver is tempting as I have some of that from my last Desktop build.

Thanks for the Win 7 driver tips.

Ah just done a quick search, the SXPS 1645 is a new XPS model? Those drivers work nicely with the original XPS machines then?

Been using my lappy over the weeked getting Snow Leopard to work in VMWare and it has been running pretty hot, even with the laptop cooler. I would like to know if a newer MB revision would fix this. I've let them know I'm not happy via the online feedback form following the swap but will see what happens.
