I have an xps 1330 that's just over a year old. Recently I did some recommended updates and now the fan is so loud it's almost distracting. Sometimes the fan is on for two or three seconds, then off for one, then back on again for a few second. Other times it just runs super loud all the time. On a rare occasion it will be almost silent like before I did the updates. Is this normal and if not is there a way to fix it? I updated the 8400 driver and I think some vista updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    check the temperatures (use HWMonitor)...

the fan speed is triggered by a combination of several factors, including GPU Temp... make sure you clean the vents(use compressed air to blow dust out)

the newer BIOS update keeps the fans running earlier to prevent GPU failure... the tech told me to update the BIOS when he came to replace the DVD drive to avoid GPU failure, but i don't want the fan noise either... enough hwarranty to last me anyways,,,

and i8kfan allows you to set the speed of the fan... not recommended, but if you need silence for a short time, use it
