Hi folks,
I'm about to get my hands on a XPS 1340 and wanted to know if any of you have information reguarding the X9100 CPU working on this laptop? I also want to know if a T9900 also works? both are socket p, so going by that information they should work, I'm also aware x9100 is 44/45w and the T series is 35.

Yes I think it will physically work, but probably not a good idea. The T9900 is 35 watt TDP but it is really closer to the X9100's 44 watt TDP. The cooling system is going to really struggle to keep the CPU's cool. Why not consider like a T9400 or T9600. A couple hundred MHz slower isn't going to mean much for normal use, only in rendering/compiling.

Thank you for the answer, yes I may well consider a T9600, I was under the impression that all the T series had the same tempreture when running the same program, thanks again
.
I do have a follow up question and it is... my inspiron 6400 has a 65nm T5500 1.66, will i notice diffrence with my XPS 1340 that comes with a 45nm P7450 2.1?
Anyways Tsunade, thanks for the reply.

Well that's the tricky thing about TDP, all T series are "35 watt" but the faster clock speeds actually push it closer to the Extreme Series CPU's TDP.
A Penryn Core 2 Duo (45 nm, released as Santa Rosa refresh/Montevina platform) performs slightly better than it's older Merom counterpart. Also Penryn being 45 nm runs cooler than Merom's 65 nm, and have an additional instruction set which helps a bit during rendering/encoding. Of course you can't directly compare them, but Penryn CPU's overall are better than the top of the line Meroms. Also Inspiron 6400 is socket M CPU's, while Santa Rosa/Refresh/Montevina's CPU's are socket P. -
Thanks for the information
, I've got another few questions ..... If I replace the stock thermal paste on the CPU? should I also do it to the 9400m and the G210m?.
Is it very hard to replace the lcd lid with a new one or is it a simple to do?, and the is a referb laptop comes with 3 year warranty, also do dell upgrade the screen if you ask them and will it be expensive?.
