I have XPS 1340 that has been acting up for some time now.
The screen sometimes is blank. Usually it is at start up. You have to close the lid and let it hibernate. Then open the screen and it usually comes back in a couple of tries. The laptop is handled a little rough(hands of a toddler) which I suspect is the cause of this but who knows.
Lately I have also seen the windows only on the 2/3 of the screen (rest blank) a few times. Not sure what is going on. I have already opened the laptop and reseat the connector going to the screen to see if that is the issue but it does not seem like it. Is there any other place I can check for an intermittent connection that may be causing it. Is it worth opening the screen assy? Any place to look for a damage wire or connection?

I have a m1530 that the same thing happened to. The laptop still works and I'm actually typing from it right now. However, I have to connect it to my tv and use that as a monitor.

Then for sure you have a problem with the LCD display and not with the GPU or the driver etc.
Maybe a lose wire or something. I am not sure in my case and maybe I should check with connecting to the TV. I have already try to re-seat the cable to the LCD display but no improvement so wondering any other place I can look for a lose or damaged wire. I just do not have enough info on how to dismantle the display if I there was on Dell I would.

Yes, as mentioned I have opened the laptop to a point where I could get to the large connector on the main board that goes to the LCD display (I used the direction in the manual to do it). I re-seated it just to make sure.
There is no other info in the manual if I can take the display assembly apart as it is possible something is broken or loose wire that makes the display come on and off. I was hoping someone can point it to me. Just removing the display does not do me any good that means I have to get another display and I am sure it will not be cheap and worth replacing.

Ok I hooked up to the TV and everything is working. It seems the screen is shot. So same situation as you Zombiefan!
My question is if anyone knows what could be wrong and if there is way I can fix it. Seems like the LCD is glued to the display assembly.

I do not see any spare for the display assembly either so not sure if I can get one.
Otherwise laptop works fine. I just got a new battery as well as did the copper mod on it as well.
