They cannot be seriously selling a 14inch notebook with 720p, can they? 1280x720 is barely usable! The new Macbook Airs have 1440x900 in a 13inch!

What a joke! At first I thought it was some kind of bargain basement option but I can't seem to find an upgrade option. Does Dell not actually attempt to use these PCs, or do they just assume XPS = watch DVDs???

I think bradsh is right. 720p nowadays is pretty much unuseable. The problem is that even many 15" Notebooks have 720p and that kind of displays just look antiquated.

Not all people want a high resolution screen... I mean yeah my next laptop is going to be a FHD one but I am perfectly happy with 1024x768 resolution on my 15.6" laptop... In fact, I'm kinda worried that I won't be able to read texts properly on my next laptop with such a high DPI screen.

I think the fact that it has a higher DPI will make it easier to read. More crisp text, so it won't look nearly as pixelated as on a monitor with smaller DPI. You would be surprised how small text can be on an iPhone and still be readable.

windows 7 and most web browsers allow for zooming and scaling. too small should never be a problem.

too small of resolution can always be a problem. anything less than 1600x900/1440x900 is a no-buy for me. I'd go FHD but 15.6" is just a little too big

You're wrong. It's like trying to focus on a knife's edge. Looking at small, highly detailed things hurts your eyes after a while.

I'd agree that 720p isn't a great resolution for a screen, but does have the advantage that games will have better frame rates with the XPS graphics chipset.

You can always use an external monitor when you want a large screen.

I think it depends on the screen... My screen may be 1024x768 but there's almost no gaps between the pixels - in fact, I have never considered my screen to be 'pixelated'. On the other hand, my friend's Studio XPS 16 which has 1366x768 certainly looks 'pixelated' to me.... Its just like how some crappy phones with 320x240 resolutions have high DPI compared to monitors but looks pixelated.

FHD is beautiful. There's no reason NOT to go with it, if its an option.

Like many have said, you can increase font size in Win7... everything will be legible and crisp!
