    I have a Dell XPS 14 (L401X)

I recently had a problem with the system overheating and becoming unresponsive.

Dell came out and replaced the motherboard

Dell also took remote control of my system and replaced lots of drivers.

This stopped the CPU overheating, but the GPU still overheated and caused unresponsiveness.

After the first visit my backlit keyboard stopped working.

Dell came out again, and replaced the keyboard and motherboard again.

    Backlit keyboard still not working

Dell also replaced the heatsink / fan. This fixed the overheating GPU issue.

So now my system is working fine except they were unable to get the backlit keybaord to work.

So much so that they have requested a replacement laptop.

Great service and all, except its a 3 week wait, and I have a feeling its something simple.

Given they have replaced the motherboard (twice) and the keyboard. Im thinking its a bios / sofware driver issue.

I've searched high and low and cant find a solution.

Whats interesting, is the option to change the brightness of the keyboard doesnt even exist in mobility centre dell customizations.

I check bios for some setting as other bios settings change when they open, but no luck.

Anyone got any ideas, I'd rather save Dell having to replace it if I can fix it quickly.

Unless they forgot to plug in the backlight cable both times I suspect you are SOL. There are 2 ribbon cables on the backlit keyboards, one for the keys themselves for typing (same as on a non-backlit version) and one for the light/communication with the light.
