I swapped my XPS14 screen for the LG 1600x900 screen. I've noticed that randomly the screen gets dimmer for a few seconds and then brightens back up. I cannot correlate it with anything, this does not seem to be a power setting issue. I remember this being mentioned before by people, has anyone come up with a fix?
-
its probably a battery life setting, its either in the intel settings or windows power settings. It changes the screen contrast to save battery life or something along those lines.
-
Did the power cord get bumped?
-
Same here with the XPS 15, I noticed it on white backgrounds mostly... I have an AUO screen, so it seems it's a matter of IGP instead of a generic issue or a screen one...

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Do you have Optimus? There seems to be an issue with Optimus and random dimming. Does it do it on an external monitor? Did you check if you are on battery/AC power?
-
I do have optimus, and this is not a power setting dimming. It just gradually dims and loses contrast unlike a power screen dimming. It then comes back after a few seconds. Can the person who mentioned Optimus and random dimming tell me more?

There is a certain Intel DPST (Display Power Saving Technology) option under "Power settings" in the Intel GMA control panel that you could try disable/check.
-
This might be unrelated since you say it doesn't correlate with anything, but Dell has this "Intelligent Display" feature which dims the screen when it is predominantly darker colors and brightens it when lighter colors are on the screen. Nice in theory, kind of annoying in practice.

Are you using Fast Access Facial Recognition? There is a setting in there that can dim the backlight if the camera doesn't detect motion for an extended amount of time. It will then resume once it detects movement. Probably not that but it's happened on mine and I disabled it.
-
can't find this intelligent display feature- that sounds more like what is happening. How do I turn it off?
-
Should be in power settings if you have it.
XPS 14 with LG screen dims on its own randomly
