Hello,
I have a Dell XPS 15, INTEL I5-560M(2.66GHZ), NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 420M 1GB GR
I've connected by laptop to my TV with a HDMI-cable. The sound and picture works but when watching movies and listening to music the sound drops out for 1-2 seconds every minute or so and then returns. I've tried using another computer and did not have this problem so it ought not to be the cable.
I've just upgraded so I have the most recent drivers, do anyone have any suggestion how to get rid of this? Really annoying.
Thank you.
//Peter

Hi Peter,
Please consider uninstalling and re-installing the NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 420M Driver. You can use the link mentioned below to download the latest driver for NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 420M.
GeForce GT 420M | GeForce
After installing the latest Driver please check the following.
1. Open Sound panel (Right Click on the volume icon in the System Tray).
2. Select Speakers as the default playback device
3. Go to the "Recording" tab
4. Right click and enable "Show Disabled Devices"
5. A recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" should appear.
6. Right click on the new device and click "Enable"
7. Right click on the new device and click "Set as Default Device"
8. Double click on the new device to open the Properties window
9. Go to the "Listen" tab
10. Click on the "Listen to this device" checkbox
11. Select your HDMI device from the "Playback through this device" list
I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance.
Thanks & Regards

Hello and thank you for your assistance,
I've selected speakers to be the default except when I've connected the TV through the HDMI connection.
The recording device "Stereo Mix" was selected and set as default, crossed the listen checkbox and selected my TV (HDMI device)
With these corrections the sound still drops out for 1-2 seconds every 1 minute or so.
I welcome any other suggestions you might have, thank you again for your assistance. -

Hi,
You may consider updating the BIOS to the latest version available. Please use the link mentioned below to download the latest BIOS.
Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]
If you have already updated the BIOS please provide me with updates on the following.
• Does the sound skips when you play it only on the laptop?
• Are you playing the movie/sound from a DVD?
• Does this issue occur when you play any specific file format?
Please do write back.
Thanks & Regards

I've seen a lot of HDMI problems traced back to hardware, so don't rule it out. I would check with a new cable. Try both cables with both computers. Then find a different TV and try both cables with both computers. I've learned not to assume every HDMI-equipped TV can reliably and flawlessly utilize every HDMI output out there. They can't.
Maybe also try different video player programs too. Some utilize the computer's software and hardware differently.
Just trying to think of easy things to try and rule out.
XPS 15 > HDMI to TV, sounds drops out for 1-2 seconds time and time again.
