Hey folks, so I admit - I have not read thru every single page of some of the larger threads on this forum, specifically this sub forum, and apologize for that. If this post needs merged, that's okay![]()
I bought a certified refurbished dell xps 15 inch 9550 model, with 4k screen, 500 gb ssd (samsung nv something or other), 16 gb ram, the nvidia graphics, etc.
I have updated it to the latest bios available from the dell support site.
Initially, I downloaded the windows media creation tool, inserted a usb thumb drive, then downloaded Windows 10 (this came with Home edition). I created a folder on the thumbdrive called drivers and put the rapidstorage drivers in there. Then proceeded with install. Loaded the drivers for the raid (which is seemingly useless), removed all partitions, formatted, and installed Windows.
Once it was up, I installed the Wifi drivers, the 1820A ones. Then I ran windows update and let it download all the drivers it could. From there, I had no missing drivers according to device manager, but I did return to the dell website and download and install the drivers for firmware, thunderbolt, etc. These:
Intel 100 Series Chipset Driver
Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Driver
Intel Serial IO Driver
Intel(R) Thunderbolt(TM) Controller Driver
Intel(R) Management Engine Components Installer Driver
Intel(R) Thunderbolt(TM) 3 Firmware Update
Just started using it today and it had a blue screen. 0x00000663 was the code, I haven't deciphered it yet, but searches point to wifi related.
When I did this clean install, did I do something out of order? Is there a better way? It's not my primary computer so I'm happy to wipe it and reinstall with a different configuration. I'm also curious about the ahci vs raid. I have only the 1 SSD. Is there a huge performance difference to use AHCI instead of raid w/ the rapidstart drivers?

Are you sure you have the right wifi as most ship with the 1830?
-
No,I'm not sure actually. When I type my system tag into the Dell support site, many of the downloads for the system are hidden/not listed. I have to use the "show all downloads for Dell XPS 9550" to get to them. How can I sort out which my laptop came with?
-
Actually, it has 1830 according to the Dell system config listing.. almost all of the information about this PC is missing from that area, not sure why. But the downloads site is now showing me the 1830 drivers, before it only showed gigabit ethernet ones, which doesn't make any sense since this has no ethernet port (that I know of).
So, I'll reinstall and try again. Will update thread!

new 1830 driver out yesterday, make sure you pick that one.

Aha, cheers for that. ty
Will report back later this afternoon.. ty for the help!

Still working on restoring the computer ; On a side note... has anyone else had weird placement of the touchpad? The left side of mine is more depressed from the palmrest than the right side. I tried to capture it here: http://imgur.com/a/qEYDq but it's not the best imagery money can buy.
