Since I bought my XPS 15 with the 512GB SSD, does that mean I have an open mSATA port available where I could pop in an additional 256GB mSATA drive?

It seems logical that it should, since the mSATA is used on most other configurations, but I know with Dell things aren't always cut and dry. For example, my previous laptop (XPS 17 702x) had different motherboards and internal component layouts depending on the configuration you ordered, and some of the differences were substantial, e.g. some had 4 memory slots and some only 2.

I would just pop off the back and see, but that doesn't appear to be very easy with these new unibody models, so I thought I would see if anyone knows for sure.

On a related note, is there a tech/repair manual available for these? My old Alienware laptop had that and it was great - detailed instructions and pictures to replace every component.

the "Owners Manual" dell published has full component replacement instructions.

popping the back isn't hard, you just need a cross-tip screwdriver for the two under the tag plate, and a T5 Torx for the rest (treat them very gently). The back/bottom then un-snaps from one side (hinge?). Don't force it.
