I can confirm this, I played with the Samsung ATIV Book 9 plus at Best Buy. I adjusted the screen resolution down to 1600x900 which results in pure crisp image (1 pixel = 4 pixels in 1600x900) and tried 1920x1080 which results in pretty crisp images but with soft edges. It's not as bad with low resolution screen that is really blurry. I'm considering buying the Yoga 2 when they fix the "yellow washout" in color and hopefully fix the color correction. It would be tough for me going from a casual gaming laptop to a ultrabook...but I really need the portability more than gaming.
I also was considering the Dell XPS 15 or the Dell M3800, but...I was shocked HOW high their price was. I'll wait a while till it drops about $300 in price then we'll start talking money.
-
Stellar-looking piece of hardware - but the pricing is quite steep.
I hope Dell can offer some good holiday discounts on their high end products.
A discount of 300.00 would entice me to buy one without a doubt. (from Dell.ca - since I am sure the US site has cheaper prices than Canada anyway) -
The only thing directly comparable right now to the size, weight, and performance of the XPS 15 is the Macbook Pro Retina. In that comparison the Dell comes out ahead by several hundred dollars on price. I'm just not buying this being overpriced by $300 considering the prevailing market. -
I would (love) to order this thing right now - as there's a 150.00 off coupon code but it expires on Nov 1st - (even before this thing would ship).
That's a LOT of faith to place in a not-yet-released product.
Just out of curiosity - only the SSD version of this comes with the 91 Whr battery (vs the 61 Whr battery in the lower two models).
How "much" more time does the 91 WHr give you compared to the 61 WHr ? -
-
Yes - the particular code I found (just by googling for it) was for dell.CA

So I searched a lot and am still not sure if the XPS 15 has NVIDIA Optimus? Anyone know this for sure? It would make sense since the M3800 has Optimus but i couldn't find anything on that states that the XPS 15 has Optimus?

It may be well worth losing the 150.00 discount now to avoid making a potential colossal mistake, should this laptop have nightmarish issues (like the previous xps line).
Sigh...first the Samsung Series 7 Chronos / ATIV Book 8 disappoints - and now my dilemma with this new beast.
I think I'll err on the side of caution and wait to see what happens when people start to own it have their say - first, before parting with two grand. -
You invoice date is the same as the shipping date. Your card isn't charged (which is the actual invoice ) until the computer ships.

Such certainly in a uncertain world. Per Dell's Patsy, it does NOT have Optimus. Neither does Dell's Precision M4800, see
Review Dell Precision M4800 Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews, look at the verdict. You want Optimus, get a MBP 15. -
Did you order one yet? -
I'm hoping its good, as if it isn't I'm going to have to get a rMBP, as I really can't wait any longer!
Pretty excited for the 18th. I wish it was like assassins creed 4, completely forgot about, noticed it was available when walking by an engames and picked it up! Didn't have to spend weeks waiting for it first -
I read some yoga pro 2 reviews. They pointed out that:
1. The color of the screen is not accurate. The color yellow looks more like gold.
2. The screen is a PenTile display, whack means there are only 2 sub pixels in 1 big pixel. So the resolution is not like RGB display with 3200*1800 resolution.
I guess the point is, if you do not need accurate color, the display looks gorgeous. -
Dammit just pulled the trigger on the top spec version. $2068 before taxes with 2nd day shipping and 5% cash back via cash card after 10-20 day. Should be at my door Nov. 22th.

Congrats on the order, let's hope it's good. -
Ordered last night. Overnight delivery for 11/22. Top model.

Can't believe I just ordered £1500 on laptop thats not even out yet! The most I've ever spent is £500 on a awful HP so hopefully its gonna be good. Also, my shipping date is the 15th November so it looks like the UK has less orders at least.

Can you check if a software named Waves MaxxAudio Pro Suite is included?
Please do a youtube review as soon a you get one ;-)
If you are courageous, remove the back to show what the inside looks like.
We'll have a better idea whether the Precision M3800 is an XPS 15 with an NVidia Quadro card of if there are more differences.
I'm seriously considering ordering one despite the high price. I wonder if we'll be able to use photoshop or if we have to wait for Adobe to rework its interface to make it more scalable. -
Hi y'all.
So I'm eagerly awaiting one of you getting their hands on the new XPS 15 just to see how it good it is. I don't want to commit to purchasing one till I've seen a few hands-on reviews - I've experienced enough burns being an early adopter with Dell laptops to be a bit cautious.
I need to replace my ageing XPS 1640 though, and soon: The screen turns pink every 3rd boot or so, which is a bit alarming (that and the fact that you have to let it warm up for 10 mins or so before it will boot from the HDD).
After reading Scott Hanselman's review on how having a laptop with touch can make quite a difference to everyday tasks, I rather want the option to have one on my next laptop:
"Don't knock a touchscreen until you've used one. Every laptop should (and will) have a touch screen in a year. Mark my words. This nonsense about how your arm will hurt assumes that you're only using it. A touchscreen is complementary not primary. I use it for pinching, for scrolling web pages, and for launching apps. It's much faster to just touch the icon than to mouse over to click one."
However here's one thing a friend told me: he reckons I'd be better off buying a rMBP as it'll have a higher resale value in 18 months-2 years. So basically, if I intend to upgrade my laptop in that timeframe, it'd be cheaper to start with a rMBP, as the delta between sale price of old one, and cost of new one will be less.
I suspect there's more than a grain of truth in that, but wondered what others thought - do any of you think about what your current laptop will be worth when we want to trade up to a new one? -
Ok so I had the alienware m14x r2 spec'd the same as the top end xps 15 (excluding the screen and 750m) . A few weeks ago a couple of the guys im my office got the xps 13.. after having a play around on one.. I bit the bullet and pre ordered the xps 15. If they are half as sleek as the 13.. u are in for a treat.
To add to what ur friend said.. yes the rMBP will re sell for more, but then u are stuck on osx for 2 years. If I was you I wild hop on this macbook killer as soon as you can before the delivery date jumps too far back.

I ordered the mid spec model about a week ago.
Just out of curiosity, I noticed on the images on the dell website the keyboard has an eject key - but theres no drive. Any ideas why?
Excited! -
Yes, and unless Dell has become lazy in the photos of the laptop (and just posted the US version pictures) - it would appear that the keyboard is NOT the awful "bilingual" Canadian keyboard that almost all laptops in Canada get stuck with.
As soon as one of us gets this puppy in their hands, we'll know for sure.
I've got my fingers crossed that this laptop is the killer I've been waiting for. -
-
Has that happened to you with dell before? -
Update: I talked to a sales guy from dell and he says the photo is an "error". (eject key)
Also, he says they only use unilingual keyboards. -
wonder how the photo can be an error
if the photo is of the newly designed unit, it has to be a physical error with the keyboard
still nobody knows if this thing is with RJ45 adapter or not -
-
How necessary do you think the adapter is?
Since I would mostly use it at school and at home use a desktop I don't think I would need it. -
it's something you get only when you need it
I need it most days - I wouldn't care for it if I had wifi all the time -
I guess I would probably see more appeal in it if the laptop has wifi problems like the previous model apparently did.
-
How severe exactly were the wifi problems? If it was actually impeding or noticeably slowing a wifi connection I would settle for nothing less than a refund.
-
But Bokeh hasn't mentioned any problems yet, and from the pictures of the open m 3800 it does appear as if they've made the set up for wifi better (shielded USB near it plus no longer a metal base)
But yeah, if wifi doesn't work and isn't fixed by a driver within the return period I'll def return it .
Let's hope that doesn't happen! -

DELL XPS 15 Haswell 2013 - June/July? - Dell - Notebooks - Whirlpool Forums
Mine is still in WIP though -
I would be pleasantly surprised if the date holds, but if it does that's 3 weeks which is pretty good for a brand new model
-
It looks like the new gen has had design factors to compensate for the primary problems of the l521x, the WLAN interference and thermal management being the big two. Makes me wish I had an upgrade path. Being that the thermal issue only is an intermittent issue for me and wlan is usually good enough it's not worth money and effort to do so. -
-
Should we expect any kind of price cuts on the XPS line for Black Friday? Trying to decide whether to preorder now or wait it out.
-
Don't know how your Black Friday promos usually work for these high end machines, but in the short term the price is either going to stay the same, or go up. It has done in Australia (top model went up to $2900).
-
Let me know how I can test to see if there are wifi issues.
All you had to do was ask over on the other thread. -
Dell Australia just msg me .. I get mind on the 8th nov. Not the 18th like they quoted
