So I ordered my l502x a couple weeks ago and it is arriving tomorrow. I just have one problem. I ended up ordering the 720p screen instead of the 1080p upgraded screen and after reading a lot of terrible things about the standard screen I am not entirely sure on what I should do. Is it worth sending the laptop back and getting the upgraded screen? The last thing that bothers me is that the sale that I got the laptop with originally was about $500 off when all said and done. Now, the discount would only be about $200. Let me know what you guys think.![]()

Wait until you see it and then decide. If it's good enough for you personally then no problem, if not... swap. From what I've read Dell uses a couple of different models for their 720p displays so you might get lucky and get the better one.

Pretty much everyone will tell you what I will say: Don't even bother with the XPS 15 if you are not getting the B+RGLED 1080p. The 720p that it comes with is the worst in its class while the 1080p is considered by nearly all to be the best in its class. So I would definitely send it back to exchange for one with the B+RGLED 1080p beauty.

if you look the screen ok, not dead pixel, not need paid more for change.

The B+RGLED panel and the JBL speakers are the only things that make the XPS 15 worth the money. My 2 cents.

You CAN swap it yourself with a screen you get online (Dell won't sell you just a screen). If you are ambitious. There is a thread on swapping the 501x screen, it is the same procedure and the same size screens.

Call Dell and tell them you made an error when ordering and would like to upgrade the screen. If you return it for a refund and then reorder, you will lose out on all your discounts.

Thanks for all of the replies guys!
The laptop is coming in the next few hours and I will make the decision according to how good (or bad) the screen is. I just don't want to have to wait another couples weeks.

when you cheat dell, next time dell not trust you, you may has more trouble.
If 720p ok, not need cheat dell. that you choice.
All good screen, after 3 month, must has a dust, one year has a dead/bright pixel. lcd screen good, *only about 3 month-1 year .after then return to 'old'. -
And as for the screen, there is one model Dell uses that is reasonable, the others are apparently pretty poor for even budget laptops. The XPS is anything but. So I hope you either get your screen changed (either through Dell sending a tech and swapping, you swapping yourself, or a reorder), or get a decent screen and you are happy with it. Personally I find 1366x768 a bit too low-res for a 15.6" system, and 1080p a tad high though that can be compensated for. I'd love to see 1600x900 (or heck, 1680x1050, viva la 16x10) on a 15.6" personally, that's like the perfect resolution for that size imo. -
Depending on how good the screens you've been using will depend on whether you like the 720p screen. I personally hated it when I bought my L501x. I had been used to Dell's ultra sharp screens at work, and two nice acer 23" 1080p screens at home. I could immediately tell the difference upon starting up the computer and was not satisfied. It actually looked worse than my 6 year old Inspiron's screen! But, I probably got the really crappy 720p screen. I then bought an aftermarket LG 1080p screen and new dell ribbon cable and swapped the screens and was satisfied. Then the L502x came out, and I decided I wanted all the newer features of the L502x, so I called dell 30 minutes after the L502x was available in the U.S. and ordered a new L502x with the B+RGLED screen among other upgrades I didn't previously order. I had just bought the L501x about two weeks earlier, so they even paid for shipping the L501x back and I didn't pay a dime in return stocking fees because I had ordered a new one. Now I have the L502x and am much happier with the laptop. I still have the LG 1080p screen as a backup in case the screen cracks or something. There was a cost to all of the uprades on the new L502x though, and something you will have to consider whether it is worth it. I paid $1200 for the L501x without extras, but now I have $2500 in this L502x with all the extras I didn't have on the L501x. This new L502x is a beast and I sold my custom $3K desktop to justify the new L502x and all the upgrades. It is my desktop replacement and works perfectly for this purpose considering I do not play computer games.
