    Hi all -

Just got a new XPS 15 and was hoping for some help with respect to the random lag I'm getting in SC2.

Basically, the game has some random lag spikes and they're most apparent at the beginning of the game. It's almost as if the laptop needs to "warm up" to the game before it'll work smoothly. Even the load menu (where you click games to create/join/play campaign) is really quite laggy unless I've played a game or two already. The only way I can get the menu page to be less laggy is to turn down the "Model" detail to low (which doesn't make sense to me).

    Here are the basic specs:

    Intel i5 CPU M460 @ 2.53 Ghz (x2)
    4GB
    GeForce GT 420M

Tried updating drivers and turning power options to high too.

    Any help - greatly appreciated!

Are you still getting the lag spikes in med mode? I have the same config as your laptop but I get around 50-60fps on medium settings with no spikes.

    Yep -

I've got Texture and Shaders on Medium and Model on High with everything else on Low (Terrain, Effects, Post-Processing, Physics).

Weird, I've got all my settings on either high or medium. no lag maybe you're not using the 420?

With Intel i5 and 420m you should have no trouble running SC2 at all on at least med. Perhaps you have a defective gpu?

Do you know how I could test to see if it's defective?

I feel the need to yell at Dell considering this laptop is barely a week a old.

right click the desktop sc2 icon and click run with nvidia gpu. see if that fixes it, your settings might just be incorrect

Just tried this - unfortunately it only made it worse, so I system restored back.

Dells going to replace my motherboard so we'll see if that helps!
