    Hi guys,

Possibly silly question here. I just bought my first laptop in years, an XPS 15 with i7. I really like it except for the constant droning noise it emits ALLLLL the time - as soon as I turn it on, no matter what I'm doing. (So far, all I've been doing is word processing and browsing the web.) Should a laptop of this price/quality be quieter? Are other XPS 15s like this? Could this be an issue with my particular machine? I'm thinking of just returning it and buying a non-Dell, but I'm reluctant to do so because I got a good deal on this one.

    Thanks very much!

If it's constant, then it's not the fan and it's probably not normal. I have an XPS-17, and the only droning noise is when it's spinnin up an unbalanced CD or DVD, definately not constant.

If it's loud enough to be heard over the phone, then contrary to my normal advice to chat, I would call Dell and let their tech listen to it.
