    Hi all,

I recently received my XPS 15 after over a month of waiting and having the EDD consistently changed.

    Specs are:
    XPS 15 i7 840 QM
    8 GB RAM
    Nvidia GT 435M

After only minimal web browsing for 15 mins or so (youtube a little, but mainly general web browsing, I am getting these stats (see attached)

The palm rest gets noticeably warm. I am operating the computer in tropical Australia, so temp is reguarly 30+ degrees Celscius. I am not techy enough to do thermal repasting or anything, but will consider buying a cooling pad. I dont really want to send back to Dell and have to wait months for a replacement, but will consider it if others think the heat is too excessive.

I havent done any stress tests yet as I wont be using the computer for gaming, mainly uni stuff and Photoshop work. It idles at low to mid 50's, but think 69 degrees is a bit hot for fairly light web browsing.

    Thanks for your opinions!

    Cheers,
    Dale

Mine gets exactly the same temperatures as yours... I don't think you need to worry. But sometimes I'm using a cooling pad and it lowers the temps to max 55 celsius

Thanks mate, I am a bit of a noob when it comes to the tech side of computers so wanted to double check. Apart from that, it's a nice computer in my small amount of experience!

Hrm my low CPU is 40 on idle, high was 82 when transcoding(75 when gaming) Gpu runs from 36 on idle to 78max when gaming.

    That's with the i5-460 and the 420m.

Mine is i7 740 and I still get around 25 as low. I have seen high as 78 for CPU and 80 for GPU.

My room temp is around 18-21 C. Yes, I am using a Notebook cooler but it is not expensive and the cooler fan was not running. I bought the cooler from PoundLand in UK for £1.
