A few questions which I'd appreciate some help with

Think i'd like the new i7-2630 instead of the old i5 but what is the impact on battery life?

Has anyone got any experience of the sandy bridge models' battery life with only the 6 cell?

Do the new i7 models with the gt540m support optimus?

Finally.. is it worth the extra cash to go for the 2nd gen range over an older i5?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

And Sandy Bridge processor, i7 or i5, appears to have much improved battery life over previous processors. From 3-4 hours on a 9-cell battery to 5-10 hours (guestimated). A 6-cell battery should be ~60% as long as the 9-cell.

All Sandy Bridge i7s support Optimus.

I would say it is worth it. Especially now that you can get Sandy Bridge i5 notebooks which are much more cost effective than the i7s.

in the UK the only option we have for the sandy bridge is the i7. Other than that it's a i5-540m which I think is the older generation.

another strange thing is that the US website explicitly says in the options '540m with optimus etc..' the UK site mentions nothing of optimus.
