    Hey all,

So I've had XPS 15 (L501x) for about 5 months now.
Around a month ago I noticed a long white smudge/smear across the screen.
At first it appeared as finger smudge, but on further inspection I could see it was the actual screen.
So I left for a month hoping they were stuck pixels, and would eventually begin to work again.
The mark is still there and I'm a bit stumped on what actually is the problem.

Its only really appears when the screen is a darker colour and doesnt appear as strong with the brightness turned down.

Here are some pics of it.

Could any suggest anykind of fix or if dell will replace the screen?

    Thanks,
    -MMdoon

Get it replaced, and yes they will have no issues doing so.

I wonder what caused it - do you carry it around a lot?

Thanks for that, I'll be sure to ring up Dell.
And Drexel, I dont carry it around that much, really just if I'm using it in a different room - which is rather rare.

can't see yer pics, am at work but the "hot spot" type defects in the screen (which is what it sounds like from your description) usually display as small areas which are brighter than the rest of the screen (but not dead) and are more noticeable on bright/white images

in the case of these spots it's usually because there's been some sort of pressure on a specific point which has forced the leds slightly out of angle/towards the front of the screen, creating an areas which appears brighter...

this can be a manufacturing fault, some sort of accidental post-manufacture pressure applied to the screen or even the bracket being screwed in too tight... seems to happen a fair bit in apple notebooks and screens o_O

if it's annoying you then it shouldn't be an issue getting it replaced

    Thanks for the reply John,

The mark I have is slightly different, it only appears on dark colours - black, blue etc.
It's about 3 inches long and really show up on light colours.
I had read about hot spots, but my issue really didnt match with the fact that hot spots show on light colours.
