Hi All (first post, Hi everybody!)

I searched for similar issues on Forums but didn't found...

    I bougth this cable USB-C to Displayport : http://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Display...84081&sr=8-1&keywords=aukey+usb-c+displayport
Description say it will work on XPS 15 9550, comments confirm it's OK too for my laptop, but some comments on French page for the same item say for some users it don't work at all. I don't want to invest too much so official Dell dock are not an option, and the goal is only to extend display to a third 1080p monitor (currently internal monitor+another through HDMI to HDMI cable). No success.

For me it don't work at all. I mean even Windows or the device manager don't have any kind of reaction when this adapter is plugged or unplugged, nothing. Tested with and without a displayport to displayport cable and monitor turned ON. Monitor is OK and displayport cable too (both tested with another computer). It's the only USB-C device I have so I can't be sure it's this device which don't work (incompatible, or defective) or my USB-C port which is dead (from day one in that case). Of course, all my drivers and firmwares (including TB3) are up-to-date with latest version from Dell support site (checked each week), and bios setup have default configuration.

Does one of you have exactly this device and confirm something should happen (sound, device manager reaction, flashing screens, etc.) when plugged 1/Without anything else 2/ of course with a displayport cable and monitor turned ON? In my case as strictly nothing happen my third monitor is of course not detected at all (Device Manager, Intel Graphics tools, Nvidia tools, etc.).

By the way, can we said the Dell XP15 9550 is compliant with USB-C alternate mode? I didn't find a clear answers, and some brands say devices they sell USB-C to Displayport will work on all computers with this mode.

Thanks in advance if you can bring me some lights, or provide experiences with similar cheap adapters which work.

What do you mean - first you write you use the Google cable and now you claim that you have the Aukey adapter and that it is working?

My bad - I read your post as a reply to mine, stating the google usb-c cable didn't work!

To clarify - my posts all pertain to the google cable and not the Aukey adapter!

Ok, thanks for your answers. I don't get why some persons say the Aukey adapter work (USB-C to Displayport version), and other say it don't work (E.g. on Amazon)... As far as I found the Alternate Mode should work for XPS15 9550 as Google say the computer should be compliant for the cable you bought to work. Aukey say the same things (Alt Mode needed), and another cable, USB-C to HDMI which don't work too (noname) ask for the same compliance. Whatever USB-C cables I plug in this usb-c hole, Windows don't react at all, device manager didn't change at all, I even used an utility (DevManView) to save before/after and do a tool comparison to find any differences, no success...

Can I ask you a favor.

Can you plug in your old monitor into the hdmi port in addition to your 4k monitor on the usb-c port?

does your triple display work without flickering?

We discussed some of the USB-C/TB3 details in following thread, http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/dell-usb-c-discussion.791191/, but as it pertains to your issues:
    • Yes, the Dell XPS 9550 USB-C port supports USB-C alternate modes, including DisplayPort Alternate Mode.
    • The behavior where a USB-C cord alone does not prompt any notifications or changes in device manager is a very good thing in my opinion. If it is properly utilizing one of the alternate mode, then it functions as a cable, not as an adapter or device or anything. That's the major benefit of USB-C
As far as why the Aukey specifically doesn't work, I can only guess. But I can say that the more reputable USB-C cable manufacturers, those known to follow the complete USB-C specs, seem to consistently work great. As above, I've heard good things about the Google, Anker, and Belkin products. Pretty sure the Dell cables (not the docks but just the USB-C to X cables) work well but are more $. I'd also buy from somewhere that's easy with defective returns like Amazon until all manufacturers figure out how to properly make these cables.

I agree, no notification of connected adapter is good. It is properly using displayport over usb-c.

I tested a displayport usbc adapter from Walmart, under the Cellet brand, and it worked that way, as a passive adapter.

All the other usb-c hdmi adapters I've tried make a dingdong noise in Windows.
