Hi everyone.
I am about ready to pull the trigger on a new XPS15 9550 with the following specs:
Dell XPS 15 9550 (Latest 2016 version)
i7-6700HQ
1920x1080 FHD resolution
16GB RAM
NVidia GTX960M
Windows 10 Home
512GB SSD PCIe
Now, what is unclear from the seller's I've been looking at is what battery it comes with - the 84 WHr battery or the smaller 56WHr version.
Now, from what I've read on notebookcheck and pcworld's the 84 Wh battery will come with models with a 512GB SSD setup. I have quoted when they have to say about this below.
Can anyone tell me what battery size I can expect with the above config, or is it impossible to tell?
Curry's sell it here http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/comput...infinityedge-display-silver-10146262-pdt.html and mention that and 84 Whr battery is included
I would like to purchase it from amazon I have a large amount of credit to spend with them.
I'm interested in

I have contacted the seller and they stated
"that [the fact that the specifications say it comes with a 84Whr battery] is a mistake. Only one with 84Whr is the touch screen 4K one."
Is that really true? I thought that some FHD 1920x1080 setups also came with the 84Whr battery. Has the seller been misinformed here? I would love to here your experience of buying similar setups, particularly in the UK and what battery they shipped with...
Also, is there any way of actually telling what battery you have. There is a display model in Curry's which I can look at but it's not clear to me how I would find out that information without taking it apart (which for obvious reasons I can't do)

Pretty sure the smaller battery only comes with models that have a hard drive in them because that takes up the physical space where the battery should be. The ssd only models should be the 84 WHr one.

If the seller says 56Wh, then it probably has 56Wh.
The configurations from Dell UK offer 512GB SSDs with either a smaller battery, or a larger battery. So the only way you'll know is if you ask the seller. -
Also seller could have originally purchased a 9550 with the 32GB m.2 SSD + 1TB HDD, removed the SSD & HDD/cradle/cable, then installed a m.2 SSD.
I think that HDD cable is not available so there is quite a bit of demand for it.
FYI - I see the OEM 56Wh battery is available in the US but have not seen the 84Wh model

Unfortunately, the 9550 you are considering may leave you with a large void inside the computer and the worst of options (small battery and no ability to install a second SSD). On a positive note, if that is the case, the computer will be very lightweight -
I never saw that in the U.S. but yeah that's definitely worth keeping in mind in that case. Why they would do that is beyond me, but that means it exists so I would pay attention to it.

This. As far as I know, 4K versions do not come with 56Whr battery, only 84Whr. 1080p versions like the one I have varies, and like Galm17 stated above, it's precisely that.

Thanks guys for your answers. I found a couple of other sellers who confirmed the 84WHr battery on the same item. Now I've ordered it - when it comes how could I go about testing what battery is inside without opening it up?
-
You can just do a battery report in CMD (powercfg /batteryreport) and look at the capacity of the battery there.

thanks

My xps15 arrived today and the good news is that it came with the 94WHr battery as the retailer confirmed. I guess it is possible that you may get a smaller battery with this setup (i7 / 500gb ssd /FHD) so always worth checking with the retailer first. The only thing I was surprised at was that it came with a Toshiba SSD rather than the Samsung one.
-
They moved to Toshiba a while back in the newer builds. The good news is the 128gb/256/512 is as fast as the 1tb unlike Samsung so you got a better drive.
-
A good result then! I'm leaving it in RAID for now. I got the following results on crystal disk mark. Will test this again coming out of sleep mode to see if I'm getting the common performance drop issue

I am so jealous. Yes, the Samsung NVMe SSD fiasco is what I dislike about owning my XPS. I've read that the first batches came with the Samsung SM951 SSDs, which are MLC and superior to the one I have, the PM951 (TLC). There are issues with BSOD with the Samsung SSDs here. I had to install the Samsung 950 Pro drivers to rid of the BSOD. It's a workaround, but no one should have to do that. I am happy to see your Toshiba getting amazing speeds!

Wow, I guess I really should count myself lucky for landing a configuration with a toshiba ssd.
Also, did a CrystalDiskMark test today (standard out of the box RAID setup with W10 home (latest updates) and updated BIOS / drivers using dell update software)
(a) on boot
(b) after waking from sleep

Complain to support about the samsung crashing and vanishing on reboot, take a system image and let support swap it. you may get a Toshiba in exchange.
