I've seen many users here also looking to trade their 86Whr for the smaller 56Whr for dual storage options and vice versa.

I created this form and this excel table to help organize trading here.

Chris, thanks for the info. Good to know about losing a storage option with the 86Whr. I was looking for a teardown of the laptop to see where everything goes. Good luck in finding a swap!

Mine shipped yesterday! I complained many times over the phone and even over facebook chat to their reps. Were you also interested in trading batteries?

Figure I'll throw my name on the list even though my XPS isn't set to ship for a couple of days. Anyone in Colorado with an 84Whr batter looking for a 56Whr + hdd cage + sata cable send me a PM.

Thanks for doing this OP. If I find someone I'll be forced to buy a 950 Pro, oh darn...

I'm also looking for the smaller battery, hard drive cage (including the rubber spacers that fit on the hard drive) and the interposer (SATA connector cable) I live in Sarasota Florida area but if we could exchange enough information about each other I wouldn't be adverse to a mail transaction. Please PM me if interested.

i'm seriously considering buying this laptop, but the model i can afford has the 56whr battery. Would anyone with the larger battery be interested in a trade if I bought it? (if someone says yes I'll probably pull the trigger lol)

would you be willing to swap with me if I get the smaller battery?

Do you mean the battery itself is back ordered, or the computer model with the larger battery is back ordered? Either way, I don't mind waiting. PM me if you want to, and I would put my order in for the computer soon!

Well, I just today received my 56Whr battery from dell. It was ordered in early November. So I now have an 84Whr battery and 56W battery. What i DON'T have is the Hard Drive cage, the rubber spacers or the SATA interposer cable. You can have my 84Whr battery and keep your 54Whr battery. I just want the cage, spacers and cable. Let me know.

I got the part numbers for the cable, hard dive caddy and rubber isolators from Dell. They said there was no stock and I could not order them. 3fdy3 was the caddy. 3xyt5 was the rubber isolators and Xdygx was the cable. So I guess I'll keep trying to get them. Dell told me the 9550 was coming to the end of life and they were not making parts for it any more. Anyone else have any luck getting these parts? Trade it is I guess.

"End of Life" for 9550? - whoever was talking with you either didn't choose the right English words or they were totally misinformed. didn't the earliest 9550's start shipping in October-November and now January is toward "end of life"?? That is a pretty short run The parts are just backordered - if you look on here people waiting on batteries, the Interposer cable etc. are starting to get shipments. The rubber isolators are just minor - you can order 7mm hard drive inserts for other models and modify them to fit. I was told by "spare parts" area of Dell that in another month the parts would be more readily available.

Yeah, I told em that end of life for the 9550 did NOT seem accurate in any way. I plan on trying again from Dell as well as trying to trade. It was a huge 3 1/2 month hassle getting the 54w battery from them. As for the rubber isolators, I'll take that advice. I just thoight I'd share some more info I got today. My ram upgrade came today so I'm excited to finally tear into this machine, I just wont have my second hard drive ready to go in.

So I traded my larger battery on this thread successfully. Then yesterday fed ex dropped off a package, here it was another 56w smaller battery. No idea how I ended up with two. I called customer service numerous times since I ordered it in November but I didn't order two. So instead of sending it back, anyone wants to trade their 84w for a 56w just let me know. Don't need any other parts, just the larger battery. Thanks.

USPS quotes $35-45for priority mail (using 2lbs). With the setup including the hard drive, I would gladly do the trade. This computer is to replace my wife's XPS 9333 (which still works fine). email me (username here) at alum.mit.edu

    To tag along this question.

Anybody know the part number for the 6 cell, is dell selling them separate?
I assume connectors for the battery are the same, should be a direct swap once you remove the caddy, cable and spacers?

As a matter of fact - I do!!!!
Only took me about 6 hours and 6 different sales and support reps to find someone who admitted the owners manual specifically states battery is user replaceable!

    Dell xps 15 9550:
    84whr Battery 6 cell
    MFR/Model: ??? 3 cell is Samsung SDI
    Part# IP6KD
    Cost $ $104.99

Now, I was given this info approx. 2-3 weeks ago and rep informed me they were, in fact, on back order...
Call to see if available yet, and if not - if they have an updated time-frame estimation.

YAY - After a hundred questions and being helped by community members, I finally get to contribute sumfin' LoL
    Good Luck -

If anyone calls and gets a concrete answer on availability, please keep us updated as well ;)

I'd like to give everyone a heads up, I ended up just buying the 84Whr battery for $104.99 then using the cashback i got from buying the laptop. Spent about $50, but sold my 9550 56Whr for about 100$ on eBay.

I was averaging about 4.5 hours tops with light surfing on the 56Whr battery. Its almost 6.5-7 hours on the 84Whr.

I originally intended had a 1TB platter as spare storage but realized i wont be using that much. I have more then enough storage on the 950Pro 512. And i mainly travel and game on this laptop.

    Thanks for posting this pubbypaws,
I'm looking for a 3-cell battery. May I ask you a couple questions about your battery purchase?
    1. Where did you purchase your new battery?
    2. Do you know the Dell part number for the 3-cell 56Whr that you sold?
    3. By chance do you know the part number for the rubber drive covers or where I could acquire them?
    Many thanks, -JT

    1. Where did you purchase your new battery?
Directly from dell 1P6KD. $104.99. In order to place an order, you need to call sale support rep, give them the product number for 84Whr. Tell them you have Dell advantage rewards during payment process. It uses it as a coupon. There's also usually a 10% off coupon on accessories which stacks.
    1. Do you know the Dell part number for the 3-cell 56Whr that you sold?
I didnt bother looking, i'm sure you can look it up or call dell order support.
    1. By chance do you know the part number for the rubber drive covers or where I could acquire them.
You can also order this through dell, i believe it comes as a package with the interposer cable, last i checked someone here paid Dell somewhat close to $20 for both the cable + rubber covers. I dont know the part number.

    Good morning from Munich, Germany.

I have the 56wh and looking for the 84wh. Only looking for someone local - I use this laptop every day!

On a side note, I've found some websites online that may sell it, but I'm not sure if they can be trusted. I couldn't find anything on amazon or ebay unfortunately...
    http://www.storebattery.co.uk/dell-...er-battery-in-uk-united-kingdom-p-193050.html

The website seems a bit interesting... and reviews aren't fantastic. Also they don't specifically say that it is authentic Dell battery :/

    Hello,

I have a brand new 84wh Li-on polymer battery from a 5510 (touch version of 9550) received last week.

Looking to swap it for a 56wh battery, hdd cage & screws and the hdd cable. I am in South East US and would prefer someone close with the 56wh battery in new or almost new condition (min recharges).

    Thanks

    Edit:
I have mine done. After working with someone for the swap, the swapped battery would not hold charge for more than an hour. Verified all drivers, firmware etc and eventually dell support indicated that the battery is most likely the culprit.

I undid the swap, purchased only the hard disk cable and a new smaller battery and all is good now. I did not use the hard disk caddy but instead used the hard disk shield/ tape from a portable drive that I had lying around.

Battery swap initiated and in progress with a board member.

    Update (05/12):
Completed mine y'day and all is well.

For those who are trying to add a secondary hard disk:
    1. you don't need the ultra slim 7mm one. Just use the regular 7.5mm 1TB one and it fits ok under the cage.
    2. You will also need the ORIGINAL HDD cable from the 5510/9559. The ones from older precision models don't work. I had three cables from previous precisions and none worked (not sure how the guy a couple of posts above did it), got the correct one (part# XDYGX) from DELL and the setup is working now.

I have a 56w battery, hdd cage and sata cable and look for a 86w battery. Bought the computer 3 weeks ago, used it mostly plugged in.
I'm located in Providence, RI and would prefer a personal meeting for swapping.
