Dear all, I recently bought an XPS 9550 full HD. The first laptop I received had a very visible defect, half the screen to the left had a "cold" color temperature, while from the middle and to the right it became very warm, like somebody smeared the screen with a yellow substance. I received a replacement in which the screen is of uniform temperature, but the whites have a (quite visible to me) yellowish hue, so we could say the screen's color temperature is on the warm side. Still the yellowish whites on the replacement are nowhere as bad as the ones on the first defective laptop. I would like to ask if this is considered the normal color temperature (and behavior) for this monitor, or if for others the colors are colder. I can live with the warm colors as long as I put to rest my suspicion that my new laptop's monitor is also "problematic". Otherwise I find this to be a fantastic laptop so far. Thank you!

Have a play with the dell premier colour app that it came with. It will no doubt be running and is in the notification area.

Keep in mind the FHD version does not come with the premier color app. I tried installing it on my own but it refused to. It is only meant for the 4k screen. I did play with an app that comes with windows, that you can calibrate the colors (I don't remember the name of the app) but it didn't really improve the colors. You can fiddle with the strengths of individual colors but the white is always a bit "dirty" and warm.

Ahh, I didn't know that. Do you know anyone with a calibration kit you can borrow?

GoNz0 thank you very much for your replies. I will ask around, but its very unlikely that somebody I know will have one. Do you think a kit would help in this case? I would not mind buying a cheap one to give it a try.

Maybe just your expectation of "calibrated" may be off? Lots of screens these days are overly cool/blue so when we see a warmer tint we think it's wrong.

From what I've read, the white point is more in the blue zone on these IGZO screens (kinda goes against what you're seeing, however). Dell inflated the white point to make the screen appear brighter. Maybe look at what MobileTechReview says about the screen too in addition to notebookcheck.

Thank you all for your answers! @Butr0sButr0s I tried this profile, it does seem to improve the overall balance somewhat but the whites are unaffected, still very warm. I will keep the profile because it seems to offer a better picture. @NNate You have a point, my previous laptop had much cooler colors and it seems I got used to them, thinking they are the normal. I quote from the mobiletechreview review of the full-hd model (short video review), "the whites have a particularly cool bias, but not as cool as the 4k version" and also "color is from the factory too cool, the whites are a little bit towards the blue cause it makes it look brighter". At least now I am sure my laptop's monitor does not have the standard behavior of the full-hd xps 15's models.

Well, my i5 Full HD is also too yellow - compared to around 10 other monitors and displays around me, so it is not about taste. I had the same problem with my old Dell leptop, so am used to correct this manually. Here are my settings in the Intel graphics tool to get rid of the yellow tint.

    Hallo @Techland.
Wenn du die Display-Einstellungen über den Intel-Treiber anpasst, funktioniert das dann auch bei Betrieb der dedizierten GraKa??

    Thanks for your settings.

Can't tell you. I don't game and do not use any software that triggers the nVidia to start - AFAIK. Is there a way to set nVidia to default? Then I could try.

Sorry, I am noob with this. Clicking on the symbol in the notification area doesn't do anything. Started normally the nVidia system Control includes setting for 3-D and Phys-X or so...where do I find controls for normal usage and said default operation?

Thanks GoNz0. Good to see I am not an idiot but the programmers at nVidia are. I'll check out the effect of this setting.
