Hello all,
My 9550 has been unable to enter hibernate state after upgraded to 1903. It actually CAN enter sleep state without problem but when it come to hibernate it just powers on and off every 180min (my default setting of time period before entering hibernate). When I say "powers on and off" I mean the power light goes on every 180min and goes off 2 seconds after, and the laptop just enters sleep state again.
When I check it in event viewer it says "entering sleep state" every time I close the lid or when the 180min period ends and then a "recovered from sleep state" event 1 second after that. But the weird thing is that "recovered from sleep state" doesn't mean that the laptop would re-power on 1 second after entering sleep state, which others have encountered and have mentioned in this forum.
Update: There's no problem at all if I let it enter hibernate directly from Start Menu. What it is unable to do is entering hibernate from sleep.
What could be the reason/solution? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest trying two things.
First, open a Command Prompt. Type Powercfg -requests and, then, enter. That will tell you if something might be continuously running in the background and preventing the computer from entering/remaining in the hibernate state, which might point you to a driver that could be causing the problem.
Also, try going to the Control Panel (with icon view)>Power Options>Change Plan Settings>Change Advanced Power Settings. Then, click on Restore Plan Defaults. Doing so will eliminate the possibility that one of your power settings is what is preventing the computer from using the hibernate state.
Good luck.pressing likes this. -
IMO disabling hibernation is preferable, pros:
* Frees up 16GB of disk space
* Avoids sleep -> hibernation transition (this occasionally fails and can result in your laptop waking up and staying awake - inside your laptop bag).
cons:
* Your laptop will drain battery while sleeping (do you leave your laptop asleep and disconnected from power for > 48 hours???)
Note: I have been disabling hibernation for a long time as it _was_ problematic, it may well "just work" 100% of the time these days?
Note 2: To disable, run from elevated cmd prompt: powercfg.exe /h off -
I found a similar iissue after a couple of hot bag incidents. But the laptop didn't go to Sleep again, it just woke up to an undead state, from which only a hard restart would get it to turn off again.
Also, it appears Dell still has sleep issues in the new models and can't fix them (some related ones, and some new Modern Standby ones).
The only workaround that works for me is to disable the "Hibernate After" thing in advanced power profile options. Btw I mostly use Sleep, because wake from Hibernate has resulted in cold boot on occasions, while Sleep is pretty stable unless I forget to plug the laptop in soon enough. -
I tried that in cmd and the only thing I suspect is the audio driver which I can't find a proper version for my laptop after 2018 probably. Well I think disabling hibernate could be a good ideaLast edited: Jul 23, 2019 -
