XPS 15 9550 random freezing

Hi There

I'm at a complete loss what to do. I just did a full Windows 10 reset, and this laptop keeps locking up, requiring a hard reset.

I'm so fed up with this, it's been nothing but bios and driver problems since day 1. Dell finally got everything sorted, but now something is messed up again. It started about 6 weeks ago, I think. At first I brushed it off as a one-off, but it's gotten more frequent over time, and can be extremely inconvienent if it happens at the wrong time.

It happens randomly, firstly whatever application I was using locks up, and Task Manager / Alt-Tab is not available. For a few seconds I can switch between windows / applications. Monitors etc. keep functioning for a couple of minutes, but all of the windows are then frozen. After 2- 3 minutes all views are fully frozen, but no bluescreen. The screen remains on like this until I hold down the power button, forcing a shutdown.

At first I thought it was the antivirus or a program. After various troubleshooting etc., the problem persists, so I figured I do a full reset of Windows 10, wiping the C: drive in the process. After resetting Windows appears to have installed all of the latest Dell drivers, which came as a surprise (this is an upgraded SSD 950 Pro 256gb, no original recovery partition). I've also updated the bios to version 1.9, so I basically on all of the latest everything. (It was I think 1.6 and all was perfect, I believe this started after upgrading to 1.7, but I don't think it's the bios, I suspect a corrupt driver.)

Since reinstalling Windows 10 earlier today, it's locked up again twice, as per before, seemingly at random. I've only installed anti-virus, Dell Power Command and MS Office, so I find it very difficult to believe this is related to an application. Laptop was running perfectly until a few months ago...

*edit: Maybe it's my dumb fault. I realised after posting that my CPU Core / Cache undervolt was set to -1.582. I've dropped it back to -1.406, maybe that was the problem all along. (GPU is -1.006)

 

It's the Samsung NVMe driver. You need to install version 2.0

Thanks for the help, peoples. I uninstalled the 3.0 NVME driver and replaced it with the 2.0 version. Thank you Schmoo2k for providing a download link. I also increased the voltage offset to -1.5, which I know from experience to be failsafe. I'll keep an eye on things and see how it goes.

I had some difficulties installing the 'Creators' update, and had to force it through manually, about six months ago. That could explain why I experienced this problem much later that everybody else.
