For a while, shrinking of windows, apparently to fit a somewhat smaller screen resolution than the default 4K, has been bugging me now and then. At first I thought this had sth to do with the other wake-from-sleep/hibernation related woes. But lately I've seen it in action upon just reopening the lid, without any form of sleep involved. Did anybody else notice such window resizing after closing and then reopening the lid?
After a bit of googling I guess this is likely caused by the Intel video driver, more specifically igfxpers.exe. Any thoughts about disabling it? Any other idea?

I am experiencing this same issue. Driving me bonkers. The windows resize and even shift from one monitor to another. I think it's related to a temporary disconnect, of sorts.
Have you found any solutions? -
No, I haven't had time for this, Just two clues.
One is possibly corrupt resolution in the registry. This is probably used by the abovementioned driver. But I didn't notice any irregular resolutions listed there

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration\
The other is that the problem may be due to an issue with scaling settings. There are two different, one in Display settings, the other in Advanced settings, Custom Scaling Level

For the UHD panel had 1st at 200% and 2nd at 250%, which was surely odd. I tried a few different choices but the rescaling problem persists.
I assume by design the windows should be resized when I close the lid an they jump to the external display, but they should return to the original position when I reopen the lid. Btw, the irregular rezised resolution is higher than the resolution of the external display, so I don't think the external display is the issue. I think I don't like any aoutomatic resizing so I will probably try to disable the driver. -
Thanks. I have tried deleting the entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration\
This kind of made the issue worse in that the title bars of windows (along with the minimize/maximize/close buttons) become scaled down and the window text is scaled up - very odd but the scaling settings appear to be correct. This was most prevalent with 2 apps: KeePass and Oracle VirtualBox. I don't know if that helps someone with diagnosing the issue.
It's kind of like when you adjust scaling without logging out - window scaling on some apps are just a message (with some ignoring and some not)
So it seems intuitive enough about the scaling - I bet you're correct. Please let me know if you find a solution; I'm done trying for now. -
Also... I am connecting via. HDMI. Many of the others posting about this online seem to be using the USB3/C connection for multiple external monitors.
Fortunately I didn't go the USB3 route (those docks are crazy expensive and I'd be upset after having spent so much money to have this issue) -
download the latest from intel (Not the beta it is unsigned) I am using 4542 and the latest nvidia.
Use DDU (display driver uninstaller) to stop the windows update driver install and clean both drivers from the laptop, then install the intel then nvidia and see how you get on. -

I'd prefer to disable autoreconfig of displays altogether than merely fix it if possible. But for now all tweaks are suspended until the next year, got stuff to do.
