Any chance you could give a detailed breakdown of the differences between 4k/FHD screens, and the issues most commonly experienced? I only know of the following...
FHD:
1920 x 1080
Matte, non-touch
Slightly higher latency ~10 ms
4K:
3840 x 2160
High-gloss, reflective touchscreen
Faster response time ~10 ms
Corning Gorilla glass/higher quality construction
PWM flickering at low brightness
Slightly thicker (?) than FHD and greater weight (?)

The 4k also has a slight red shift as you go to extreme angles. It's still far superior.

I think from what i have read that the 4k screen is excellent for everything but gaming due to ghosting.

Man....no reviews...no thermals...no benchmarks yet....come on people!
Ends tomorrow but the XPS is 10% off right now... unfortunately I don't have enough money to get it yet but I'm sure it'll be 10% off quite a bit more.... -
The FHD looks really nice. But the 4k screen looks spetacular
EDIT - these comments are for the 9550 screens. I haven't seen the 9560 but one user just reported his 9560 screen has same 4k screen model number we saw on the 9550varuka and Undervolt92 like this. -
Are there bezel differences between the 4k/FHD screens? Like besides resolution/touch/matte what exactly (if any) are the differences? If you had them powered off side by side could you tell they were different?
-
The FHD has a plastic bezel typical of what you might see on a regular matte laptop (the bezel is just a few mm wide but has a small lip at the very outer edge so it is not quite as cutting edge design, so to speak). The 4k "bezel" is nicer but in practice the FHD bezel is still really nice as the screen just blends in with the room...
I wanted a matte screen, don't use touch, and don't do photo editing or own any 4k movies so the FHD was a no brainer for mebestseany and Undervolt92 like this. -
I plan on getting the XPS15 9560 in the current 10% off sell and for the life of me I can't decide between the FHD and 4K.
My main usage would be programming, browsing and watching videos. I plan on doing some light gaming, but mostly on an external monitor. I don't see any advantage to having 4K resolution and the prospect of longer batter life and matte screen is really appealing to me as I'll be travelling with it.
I wanted to ask how bad is the ghosting for non-gaming usage on the FHD? For example - will I notice blurring while watching a video or browsing the web?
How does it compare to the 4K and to 2015 MBPr?
Should I just go on the safe side and get a 4K?
Note - I'm not living in the US and will have someone bring it to me,
so I can't just get a machine and replace it if there's something I don't like about it. That's why I must be sure.
Thanks! -
4K screen is mirror like glossy.
I'm returning my 9550 4K and getting a 9560 HD.

I mean the whole unit wobbles... like a cradle... the 4K screen is much heavier than the HD screen. Weight uniformity is an issue for me.

Can anyone confirm whether the CPU is a downclocked 35W i7 part or the full 45W chip? -

The precision is 35w but the XPS is 45

I read that long thread about ghosting. Is it still the same as it always was?

Ok cool! With my corporate and student discounts I should be able to get it under $1k for the i5 model...

Has anyone had any luck with enabling speed shift together with the XPS 9560/Kaby Lake? It's not enabled by default - right?

Why are there no reviews detailing whether 9550 issues have been addressed in the 9560? Isn't the new laptop in many users hands now?
-
Also very few complaints about coilwhine or ghosting (only been looking at the UHD model, as I placed an order myself for that model).
No BSOD reports as far as I can tall. A few reports regarding the WiFi (Kille 1535) disconnecting in conjunction with heavier loads.

A video review with gaming benchmarks surfaced at reddit

Haven't had much time to push mine, it only showed up yesterday afternoon and I was busy.
Its very quiet at idle. Little noisy while gaming, but thats to be expected and it wasn't super noticeable. Plays rocket league at 1080p fine. Doesn't show the mouse at all in supreme commander (this is an issue). Keyboard is a little mushy, not quite as nice as the surface book was. Its surprisingly heavy, but feels very solid. The extra screen space is very noticeable, and welcome. The front corners dig in a bit while typing, but I'll adjust to that. Overall I like, but reserving judgement overall.
Anybody have a factory 500GB drive to test? I'll swap my 256 factory drive back in and run the same test on it.Last edited: Feb 1, 2017 -
I spoke to Dell chat guys who confirmed in the UK, the fingerprint reader will come mid feb. Price hiked by £30-£50 apparently. Not sure I care for it tbh.
The review over at reddit sold me on it. Those SSD speeds he posted are insane. This will be perfect for my video/ photo editing. The longer I have put off buying it, the more I have justified spending on it (basically looking at top model now). Want 32gb ram but no other way of getting it without the top spec -

More concerned with seeing CPU temps and GPU benchmarks at this point...
