Built-in display, UHD. No difference on the external which is also wide-gamut.

Just tried to install latest intel driver from DELL - same result ... settings completely gone and PowerColor become absolutely unusable cos it now able to change only basic image settings... but not color gamut. That's strange ... but the fact latest intel driver doesn't work as expected
-
I'm not sure if it is a good idea to let Intel video do this. I recall instructions from DisplayCal that a part of Intel video driver should be disabled, just as anything like Dell PremierColor, for DisplayCal to work properly. But the filename doesn't match the filenames of the current Intel video driver.
-
Yep, I definitely installed the latest Intel video driver on Dell's site.
Also I see PremierColor crashing and restarting when I unplug the laptop. -
Might be worth letting DDU clean uninstall the intel drivers, it fixes my photoshop screen profile issue.
-
New Killer driver out on Dells site.

Desperate call for your help guys :
Please send me your service tag through PM if you received a PM961 in your XPS, the technical support is asking me these since they're "unaware" that some people received that SSD in their unit and it may help people who're in the same case as me ask an exchange.
Thanks a lot ! -
I think it is safe to say you're not going to get someones service tag and Dell are simply taking the piss with that reply. Link them to one of the many reviews on the internet.
FYI you will not get a PM961 as they no longer buy them -
Yesterday I received an email from "Dell" asking for my service tag and a few "survey" questions about the screen flicker Dell is trying to fix.
If "Dell" has my email their systems can connect that to the service tag. Furthermore, Dell hasn't cared about this before. I will say the questions are pretty well written and formatted.

I'm not sure to understand your point with "scam" and how it's related with me but I've been exchanging emails and calls with them since 2 months and got shipped a PM951 that I'll return soon since it's literally worse than the Toshiba XG4 I actually own. The email about service tag is a reply of the conversation since I've spoken about it on the phone and thought I'd get one or two service tag from this forum to just to prove them but seeing the replies it seems that service tag is very personal...
I guess I'll have the forum messages as proof then...
Note : I wouldn't mind giving you the service tag of my xps in pm if that'd allow me to have yours just for the sake of replying to Dell -
Hi. I am curious how did you test/measure difference between those SSDs so you conclude XG4 better than PM951??

Probably with a benchmarking program such as AS-SSD or Crystal Disk Mark. We all know that these benchmarks equal real world performance... Yes that was sarcasm -
Can you clarify what is DDU? Which drivers do you install then?
Thanks -
I returned back gamma slider by simply uninstalling latest dell's intel hd driver, then windows installed drivers automatically.
Now it says version is 21.20.16.4574. -
That's could be probably true in case when he measured it via something different than AS-SSD or CDM ... I am pretty sure Samsung drive is faster in that "real-world benchmarks"
That's why I asking: how measurements done ?....
-
Display driver uninstaller and I am running intel 4664
-
Does anyone have a contact I can speak to about extending my warranty ? I'm getting nowhere. Support aren't getting back to me and nobody I speak to can do it for me...arrrgggghhh such rubbish support.

I just ran my first benchmark (used AS SSD Benchmark) on my PM961 SSD and was surprised at the low numbers. Is something wrong or am I misunderstanding what I should be reading?
Seq Read: 2303MB/s Write: 333MB/s
4k 21MB/s 1.1MB/1
4k 64 423 14
Acc time .100ms 4.397ms
score 675 49
974
I was under the impression I should be getting FAR faster seq write times? I'm not too familiar with what these various numbers mean but how do you guys read those results? Should I be doing something differently? -
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
You can either:
1. Use crystal disk mark to measure performance
2. Set up your SSD in AHCI mode and install the samsung NVMe driver and then retest with AS-SSDinsidemanpoker likes this. -
Um wut. Dells support is fantastic. Go to the online chat thing, thats the easiest way. You talk to them live instead of waiting for a response..
-

So it was just a matter of the AS SSD not working properly? I got read 2953 write 1673 on crystal disk mark. That's fine and it means it's working well, right? -
I think the CDM numbers are more relevant, but the AS SSD is a good indicator that the SSD isn't working optimally, although the actual situation isn't as bad as AS SSD shows.
-
insidemanpoker Notebook Evangelist
Thanks. You think the two different results are good enough for a normal user or do you suggest any actions to optimize? -
It is well known AS SSD is buggy as hell with SSD's and you used the correct one after.insidemanpoker likes this.

I'm not sure, you can google up measurements for your SSD here and on reddit and decide. I recall the main difference is in deep queue performance. Been a while since I was doing this.

???

Haha yeah not for me. They said we will get the team to email you a quote.... Still waiting....nothing. called to follow up.....we will ask them to email you.....still waiting.... You get my drift.
Interesting discussion about the SSD thoughEason likes this. -
Whats "???"
Many people have no problems with dell support, especially not compared to HP. I had an issue with my screen and they replaced it two times for me within a matter of days each occasion until i got a better screen.
Then again, perhaps it varies from region to region. -
ah that sucks man. I guess it might vary from region to region and what level of support you get?
Either way hope you get it sorted eventually. Maybe try getting ****ty with them on the chat? LOL -
I really like this device, so I am thinking of getting extended warrany.
Dell quoted me for $306 for onsite + accidental for 2 years, so covered till May 2019. When I hesitated, the representative kept adding discounts, up to 25% discount, so $229.
Is this a good price? I was receptive to the final price but was a bit turned off by the pressure tactics, offering discounts of 15%, then 20%, then claiming a "today only" deal of 25% ...
Any experience or thoughts would be much appreciated! -
Oh man, that's good! Are you able to give me your contacts email address and I'll jump at that. $229 is great!

@jbnb: Do it. It is an expensive machine. Extra warranty is definitely worth it. The discounts are also good. Yes, Dell's sales reps are c***p. They only know how to pressure you into purchasing, which is a turn off.
I also had an increase amount of screen flickering and called Dell. They suggested I should remove Dell PremierColor and disable HyperV, apparently, they claim that this fixed it for others. Any thoughts?Last edited: May 27, 2017 -
I also noticed some flickering earlier, but I have Hyper-V off and no PremierColor.
-
I think, the issue requires a BIOS fix. I have to say, it is much less frequent on mine, than others make it to be on forums and YouTube videos. I noticed it mainly, when on battery.
-
Well, I was hoping that the Memorial Day Sale from Dell would finally put the price down to the price point I wanted to pay, but does not look like it happened.
I actually am planning to purchase the XPS from MSFT store since with my student discount it is $1799 (include 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 4K touch) but the only thing additional I really needed is the Finger Print Scanner which the MSFT does not have.
Does anyone know of it is possible to add the feature after market?

Sort of simple, you need the palm rest, (the entire top lid) then fully strip your mother & daughter board, screen, other bit's and bob's into the new palm rest that you bought with fingerprint reader and ribbon cable to connect it to the socket on the motherboard.
-
Thanks Gonzo, I just picked up from MSFT Store. It was discounted today for Memorial Day and they gave me my student discount on top of that. Walked out with it for just over $1600. Great deal. Not to mention $150 for a two year accidental warranty on top of that.
Btw would you know how I could order that top lid? Would I just call dell direct to see how I could purchase?

I doubt Dell would ( I may be wrong) but you can usually find the parts on eBay a few months after release.
Personally I would forget about it for now as it isn't that great compared to the 4 digit pin option, have a look in a few months and try to get it done before the 2 years accidentals up in case you break it

I'm pretty sure I got a 4 year on site warranty for a price similar to that. There was a promotion of some kind but with all things Dell you should really push to get the best possible price.
Anyone have any idea why my boot time seems a bit slow? Takes about 4 rotations of the little loading circle with the Dell logo for me with a 1TB SSD and not much running on startup. Anything else to change or no big deal? -
Good call. I figured since I just bought it would have a newer BIOS but it was on 1.0.3 ... updated now and no more flickers.
-
GREAT news, the MSFT Store version includes the finger print reader. Just was not depicted on the spec sheet.
I also bought the Blade 14" 2017 and comparing the two units.

I think I've got it narrowed down to the XPS 15, through the business side to get the business support, with 3 years Pro Support Plus, or the Aero 15. I don't need the extra boost from the better video card in the Aero 15 (I don't really game on my laptop other than non-AAA list) and the reports are that it gets VERY hot.
The system I specced out comes out to about $2020 for an 1920x1200 non touch screen, the warranty mentioned about, 16 G ram, 512G SSD. I may just see if I can use an external SSD for a second drive for data storage (in my current system I have a 512 SSD, formatted down to about 350 Gig due to all I read about needing to do that for speed etc. and a 1T HD for data storage. I don't suppose there's any way to get them to guarantee the Samsung SSD? And do they deal much on the phone?
Thanks. -
Just checking, is it just me that has constant feeling that the XPS15 just doesnt deliver the performance it should? Despite considering myself being a power user, having 32 GB of RAM having replaced the SSD with a 960 Pro and the Killer crap with Intel 8265 the machine just feels slugish. Have experimented with drivers, BIOS etc but it doesnt really seem to change all that much. And firint up something like LatencyMon is a nightmare confirming the sluggishness.
Had a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 before the XPS15 and it just felt so much more professional and stable and the Lenovo software, drivers etc just kicks Dells butt. If it only hadent had such a bad screen...
Even the MacBook Pros I used to get and run Windows of felt way more stable and performed better overall, despite Apples lack of interest for driver updates etc.
Have aldready reinstalled a couple of times but appart from a feeling of some responsivness in the begining, it just seems to go downhill fast (much faster than Windows installations usually do). But I see no indications of any hardware actually being faulty.
And this is mostly for office work and programming, no gaming etc

Has anyone experimented with disabling the iGPU and just forcee the dGPU to be active all the time?Last edited: May 30, 2017 -
I had a similar problem when I first got my XPS. It was laggy and appeared slow. Installing the right video driver solved my lag issues. The problem is that unless you block the update of the video drivers, windows 10 will put the old bad one back on. I'm not sure which video driver version is the most solid currently so I've been sticking with 4590.
Once I figured that out, I reinstalled Windows 10 (creators edition) and used a minimal set of Dell drivers. I installed the 4590 driver and the laptop has been pretty solid for a few months now. Did you follow the @GoNz0 write ups at http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/xps-15-9560-owners-thread.800611/page-188#post-10506878 or http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/dell-xps-9550-clean-install-guide-custom-iso-download.789769 for a clean install? -
I did a clean install the other night and I've come across an issue whereby if I have to restart the unit for any reason (i.e. drivers install that needs a restart) then it just hangs at the Dell start up logo and nothing happens. I have to do a power off and on before it boots into windows normally. Any ideas what it could be? Drivers I've used are from the drivers thread here.
-
Try to disable "Turn on fast startup" and check if it makes any difference.
-
I got a few redirects around Dell's Tech support. I was told that the issue has to do with specific versions of Intel graphic card drivers. They suggested to get them from Intel's page and try an older version as well. I will try the one from Intel's page instead of Dell's.
I found it interesting that they also offered a refund. It was a tempting though, with Max-Q coming out soon. However, the laptop itself is definitely great. Right now, I am at a conference and for once I am not worried of my battery life! -
They seem to be happy to offer refunds for problems that have dragged on without a real fix, I got a refund 2 years and 11 months into a 9530 with 3 year onsite that had already been upgraded to a 9550. I took the refund with the 9560's being out then after 3 exchanges with a 9560 I got another full refund and bought again using code stacks to bring the price down.Athonline likes this.

So, has anyone managed to get a good DPC latency of the xps 15? Mine is constantly "overloading" despite low cpu etc usage. And has really tried everything with drivers, disabling devices etc...
