    Hi,

I guess XPS 9570 and Precision 5530 have just the same assembly but different GPU & CPU.

Can anyone confirm Thunderbolt 3 port is connected to the Nvidia Quadro P2000 GPU in Precision (or XPS 9570)?

Can I get 4K@60Hz on external monitor using Quadro P2000 GPU connected through TB3 port?
Is it possible or is there such option in Nvidia control panel?
Or the only output for Nvidia GPU is HDMI port?

I can't find this information anywhere.

AFAIK the 5530 uses the same Optimus configuration where the GPU (optionally when enabled) acts as a coprocessor to the iGPU (always active) which always provides the display output, also via TB3. Sure the Quadro can, indirectly, drive the external displays.

AFAIK only the 7k series Precisions can use the Quadro standalone without the iGPU.

To my knowledge dell only uses OEM SSDs, my guess is @Paul Dubey upgraded his system with the 970 Evo.

On an off topic comment, I had the privilege of doing a clinical rotation with a Paul Dubey who is an awesome Pediatrician.

... that is what I said before. If you order a 1TB model, you have a slim chance to get a Samsung SSD with the XPS from Dell. Saw a few people before reporting it on reddit. But not for 250 and 500. But it wouldnt be the 970 series I think but the OEM PM series Samsung ones, which arent really slower though.

Calibrating the 9570 4K Display? Has anyone had positive experiences?
While the display looks great out of the box, with impressive brightness and very well saturated colours, it was clear that it needs calibrating to get the best out of it, or so I thought.
So after a few weeks of getting everything else bedded it I thought it was time to tackle the display calibration and get to a point of being able to accurately edit Photo’s on the go.

Nothing more than a 5-10 minute job I thought but it was not to be. Up until this point I thought I had a reasonable understanding of display calibration and print matching having calibrated many desktops and laptops to the sRGB colour space.
It seem though that wide Gamut Monitors are a whole different ball game: That so far as ended in abject failure.
I’ll relay my experience below and am looking for advice on where to go next:

    So My experience and setup:
    Setup:

    9570: 4K UHD Display
    BIOS 1.3.0
Intel Display Driver: 23.20.16.4973 (note the latest one from Dell fails to install)
    Nvidia Display Driver: 23.21.13.8934
Colormunki Photo – SW Version 1.2.4 (Latest)
    Dell Premier Colour 4.1.4.0

I had made no changes to the settings in the Intel Display Driver control panel prior to calibration: Which was set to Color Enhancement Brightness 0% Contrast 50 and Color Accuracy enabled.

    Calibrating:

First Job was to disable Dell Premier Colour from starting up automatically: Although could not see a service running so presumed this would be sufficient to prevent any interference with the Colormunki SW and Windows colour management

Installed Colormunki Photo: Where the first challenge presented itself on a 4K display: with a Tiny App Window and drops downs that were not only minuscule but layered over each other making it impossible to utilise correctly.

This was fairly easily solved by going to the programme properties and compatibility and selecting “High DPI scaling overrise” and ensuring that it was it was set to override “system” in the drop down box. Success a usable sized window

Calibration set to Advanced: Laptop Display, White Point D6500K, Luminance Target 120cd/m2 and proceeded to calibrate: Display brightness reduced to 30% to get close to the target luminance (pity that the adjustment steps using the Control/Function keys is not more granular). All seemed to proceed as expected, profile saved and then a quick look at the before and after comparison: The first warning sign as there seemed to be some Posterisation on the woman’s forehead and seemed a bit too warm but not too bad.

However with the new profile loaded there is a distinct pink tint to the greys, which was very pronounced in the lighter greys. The Pink colour cast is particularly noticeable in Windows/Office Apps Web content and B&W Photos are a complete mess.

I have made several additional calibrations (having also recalibrated my desktop Monitor, A standard Gamut model), all with similar results. I even tried calibrating the Laptop with the LCD Monitor pre-set, which just made the colour cast even more prominent.

Going to Windows color management and unchecking the “Use my settings for this device” corrects the color cast issue.

Rather stupidly I did not check what if any profile was assigned in Windows Color Management before calibrating, and only see the profiles created by Colourmunki in the options list so if anyone could confirm what the default profile assignment is, I would be appreciative.

As far as I can tell being a Spectrometer the ColourMunki Photo should be able to cope with WideGamut displays: Although I wonder if the software is not currently able to adjust for the newer backlight technologies that I believe the Dell Panel is using.

Would be interested in hearing other peoples experience, advice etc., especially if having made a successful calibration with the Colormunki.

For the moment I have reluctantly gone back to using Dell Premier Color for daily use:

AFAIK older spectrophotometers would require correction for use with new wide-gamut displays.

Anandtech reported a calibration issues with the 9560 they weren't able to resolve. It may have something to do with BIOS and video drivers cooperation - there were known glitches on this relation earlier too. DPC was also known to cause issues on several occasions, now I understand it is discontinued?

Posterisation after calibration is not totally unexpected, because 8-bit bitdepth isn't so much with wide gamut, and calibration reduces the number of discrete brightness levels in channels. I understand it is important not to have a screwed-up initial setting before you start calibrating.

Well, I based my comment of userbenchmark.com statistics. You can look up the 9570 and it is a sum of a lot of data sent in, and you see for example all the RAM models used, also all SSD models. Toshiba and SKH are like 99%. Samsung seems to be just used, if Dell is out of stock for Toshiba and SKH for a few days, until they get a new delivery. So Samsung SSD is just a pick if they cant provide Toshiba or SKH in stock. So you have to be really really lucky to get one if you order in the right sweet spot window.

Userbenchmark data may result from folks upgrading on their own. You can also find a few with "performance" RAM and eGPUs.

Considering that I have only gotten Toshibas I kind of agree with you based on my own experiences, but I think it is important to not confuse what we think with what we know. And also there is nothing saying that Dell might not switch to mostly Samsungs any day. I guess it all comes down to prices and supply. And could be regional differences as well etc. I guess the important thing is probably that to most people, it really does not matter from a performance perspective.

Not so long ago, it seemed the majority of XPS laptops came with Samsung SSDs.

There are probably several reasons why Samsung was a leading supplier during the first generation of nvme technology.

These days, I suspect Dell's SSD selection is based principally on price and supply. From Dell's perspective, as nvme technology is maturing, SSD supplier is probably less critical for light-and-thin laptops.

From a customer's perspective, only a small percentage of users would notice a difference among nvme drives. And an ultra-thin laptop like the XPS has so many design compromises that uber-high performance CPUs, GPUs, RAM, SSDs, etc. may struggle to perform to spec.

    Hello,

I got the 9570 with i9/32Go/1To/FHD and I'm very happy with it!

The device is beautiful, very good build quality and keyboard, very nice screen, and very nicely surprised by the jack audio output!
The biggest complaint I have actually is the webcam placement, really annoying.

I undervolted it to -0.130V using XTU and it has been stable for a few days. With this, I achieve a score of 1250-1280 on Cinebench multi-core, with a computer much quiter/colder - outside Cinebench of course.
It did better when undervolted to -0.140 but was not stable under 3dmark or Fortnite.

It does never get loud on idle nor when multitasking, even quite heavily.
It does get louder on sustained load.. even for "moderate" load, e.g. when dropbox is indexing & downloading 300k files.

I paired it with a Thunderbolt dock ( Caldigit mini dock dual hdmi - http://www.caldigit.com/thunderbolt-3/mini-dock-HDMI-DisplayPort/ ), which is connected to my wired network and 2 FHD screens.. I didn't run into any problems with that one and the network is perfectly fast and stable.

    Generally, this computer is extremely snappy and it's a pleasure to use it. ( I had a dual-core U- series before so it's a day-and-night difference )

Regarding the i9 vs i7 debate, I believe i9 doesn't perform better than i7 on multitasked sustained load, but it surely does for single-core loads, and probably for light multi-core loads too.

PS: I have a Toshiba drive.

My experience overall has been a nightmare. Ordered the i9/32Gb ram/1TB Ssd with 4k display.

Webcam was faulty. In the middle of doing my master thesis.

11 days later after confirmation that my refund would be refunded, now no laptop and no money.
And they got my 3000 euros.

Now having to resort to going to library to work on my master thesis! Crazy!

All of this after paying 3000 euros.

I was certain I would rebuy the system, but now considering other options.

I’m trying to get 4K@60Hz using P4317Q monitor with Precision 5530 (Quadro P2000) via Thunderbolt port.
I use USB-C to DP adapter (Delock) -> DP to DP cable (Dell original). Instead of any signal, I get error message “USB device not recognized“.

I have re-installed the Thunderbolt drivers ane re-enabled the feature in BIOS, but I’m still getting same results.

With my XPS 13 (9350) the setting works without any issues.

Is there any solution? Is it the adapter/cable or driver malfunction? The device manager shows no errors, but the “USB error“ message looks strange.

    Meanwhile:
Re-installed both Quadro P2000 and Intel UHD 630 with:

    1) Dell drivers
    2) Nvidia and Intel original drivers
    3) Disabling Quadro in device manager
    4) Downgrading TB3 driver from Dell website

No success with all of the above. I'm running out of ideas.

According to Dell SupportAssist, all drivers are up to date. When troubleshooting USB ports, I am still getting error on the TB3(USB-C) port with the adapter and Dell DP cable plugged to monitor:

Hey just got my XPS 9570 a couple of days ago.

    I reinstalled windows 10 to get a fresh/clean computer.

It seemed that most of the drivers downloaded automatically through windows and then Dell updater. Should I download the drivers for Intel igpu and Nvidia directly from Intel and Nvidia or through dell? I'm gonna use Guru3d tool to remove those and do them the proper way.

Any other must-have software/drivers from Dell's support site. According to the device manager, every device seems to work.

What would you recommend testing to ensure that my XPS work as it should?

    Thanks

Have you installed the latest TB firmware? Does your adapter currently work on another computer/laptop? It seems to me that the adapter is broken, but you said it worked at least in the past.

Confirmed. I get 4K@60Hz with my older XPS 13 (9350).

I have installed latest TB firmware and driver from DELL's site:
    https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/precision-15-5530-laptop/drivers

When connected, the TB software manager shows no attached devices, and I get the "malfunction USB" messages over and over, sometimes with stuttering/crackling notification sound.

Later today I will try two different USB-C -> DP adapters to see any difference.

I forgot to say, when receiving the laptop, I did fresh install of Win10 to get rid of bloatware. I installed most of the drivers manually and let Windows update. Device manager shows no conflicts or missing drivers.

Sorry I guess I'm still confused on if you have been able to verify it works recently? When you say older XPS do you mean one that you had previously? If really sounds like a bad adapter to me.

    Hi,
I'm glad to see all this outstanding support on the XPS 15 9570 from all your suggestions here ;)
2 Days ago I finally got the DELL XPS 15 9570 from Microsoft Store (I7/4K/512GB)
So even before turning on the computer I already opened it's back and did everything according to my check list after all the suggestions you guys wrote here ;)
I replaced the Killer Wireless with Intel 9260,Opened the heatsink and cleaned GPU&CPU with alcohol and put "Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut" (I didnt just put a slice of paste,I used their little plastic tool to start putting the paste around*)
Anyways after putting the new Paste I also took out all of the Thermal pads (There were 5,1 On the SSD the others on the VRAM I think?) Anyways used there Arctic 1.5mm Thermal Pad..Closed the heatsink..
Powered on the PC for the first time and right away clicked F12 to start doing fresh install to Windows 10,
Finished installation installed drivers so Wifi 9260 could work and first thing I did was launching the Intel XTU to start the undervolt process..
There from what I see it looks like no matter what I do (On stress test of 15 Min) From Stock value to -0,130v (On -0,150 Computer crashed in the middle of the Stress test so I guess it's the limit probably.. ? :\
Anyways the CPU temp is around 85-90..With opened HWInfo I can see 3 cores were also on 95 when the other was on max of 88..
I checked here on the forum and it seems undervolt&repaste just helped users here but it seems I dont get any effect ;/
You have any guess maybe what I did wrong?
My current thinking is the repaste was wrong,And that I should have just put slice of paste and let the heatsink spread it and not use the plastic tool there..
Looking forward to answers before I start to open again the heatsink and doing it all over again? :/
Or maybe the stock thermal pads that I replaced were more then 1.5mm?

If your computer is crashing on -150mv but stable on -130mv then you are figuring out limit to undervolting your CPU. You want your system to be 100% stable.

Did you run stress tests before your repaste to see if temps were relatively even in all cores?

Under stress test like Prime95, the cores should be close in temps, within say 2*C or so. There is the possibility the thermal sensors are poorly calibrated so there is only so much precision you can expect.

I suspect a repaste might help. The grain of rice or dot method might be better than spreading out the paste manually. You should use a very small amount of thermal paste. There are plenty of guides and photos here so search around.

Also check your heatsink is not bent. I don't see that as a common issue on the 9570 but check anyways.

Also make sure any thermal pads under the heatsink are not too thick as that could tend to push the heatsink away from the chips.

My pc is sooooooooooo slow, buffering everytime.. I can't even open web pages. While my phone on the same wifi works phenomenal.

So Dell will receive a call I believe

@edoroom, I would reapply the thermal paste. Spreading can be a good way to go if the heatsinks make good contact, but many of these XPS heatsinks are bent kind of like a V. Like @pressing mentioned, I would do the dot or line method. Also you may be hitting your undervolt limit, but you may also be those cores getting too hot. Try the repaste then work with the undervolt. Also when you take the heatsink off, check how the spread is so you can tell if you need more thermal paste.

@eucalyptus, I would get the latest drivers from killer directly. I'm not a fan of the Killer control suite but you can get just the drivers from here.

    Thanks for the reply,
I just opened the XPS again and opened the heatsink,Now that I'm relooking at the repaste I have done I'm not sure if it was enough or not ;/

Here are the pictures I just took,
I will now clean it and try repaste by the dot/line method and let the heatsink spread it instead of what I did before which was using the plastic tool to spread it manually..
And doing undervolt shouldnt lower the temp after all? So I dont get what do you mean on saying "You may be hitting your undervolt limit" I mean yea,On -0.150 computer didnt survive quick stress test and on -0.130 it's alright,But I dont see any effect (On 30min stress test on Intel XTU) between -0.130 undervolt and 0.00 stock ;/ I'm new to all of that and I'm pretty sure I'm checking it well but I still dont get it..

@edoroom, please use the image attachment feature because your image hosting site shows up as not safe.

The undervolt should do two things.
    1. it should lower the temps a bit.
    2. it should allow the CPU to run at a higher clockspeed.

When you're testing out the undervolt to see if it's helping, make sure you're not only paying attention to temps but also the clockspeed that the cpu is running at.

Well if anything you used too much paste, but that's better than using too little. I would still say that the heatsink must be bent since the GPU heatsink doesn't have the full outline from the GPU (check the left side). Try it with a little less paste. I recommend doing a dot for the GPU and a line for the CPU due to the size/shape.

    *on edit*
those thermal pads that you replaced for the VRAM may be too thick and causing the limited contact.

I was just about to ask if it's maybe due to thermal pads I replaced ^^
Uhmm ;/ In that case what I can do?
    They are 1.5mm

I believe the stock ones were 1mm thick? Perhaps you could try leaving the two in the corner that are still attached to the ram and use the stock stuff on the others? It may be better to just use all stock though.

stock pads for vram are 1mm. You are not helping by using 1.5mm pads

    @custom90gt
Thanks for that. But I believe there is something wrong with my laptop :/ Swapped my router for a better one now as well. And wifi is excellent.
But my XPS just takes forever to load anything in the web browser.... open the GUI on the router takes 30 seconds. Open a search on google takes 30 seconds and sometimes it drops internet so I have to cancel, open a new tab and make the search again. Or could it be Edge the web browser? just recently switched one week ago from Chrome and chrome seems to working better...

Also, there is a VERY loud buzzing sound from the DC connector. Like super load. If fans aren't running turbo jet I can hear it a meter away...

And to add a 100th problem to the list. I bought official Dell USB C > DP connector and using a DP cable to my Acer Predator X34 monitor to watch movies and stuff. But it drops audio for 2 seconds every 30 seconds..... so 2 times a minute it drops audio, just dead silent, still showing screen but no audio. Did remove and reset and installed new audio drivers, but it didn't help. Are not running any Dell Software or other bloatware such as maxxxxxaudio.

Might be even less than 1mm. I remember the two not near the fan were quite squished. Mind some pads don't squish much.

Have you made sure you have all the latest Windows Updates installed? Recall there where some WIndows 10 bugs with similar effects.

I only have a XPS13 that is a few years old and that has an mDP port which the XPS15 seem to lack, if that is still true, it might be the adapter causing the problems.

I really don't get why Dell continue with these killer NICs considering all problems. I swap them out for Intel NICs as soon as I can as a rule these days. Even Killer seems to have switched to Intel now :)

    Now I'm confused ;/
So which pads I should buy now?
    1mm or 0.5mm?

If the pads you are purchasing have good give to them (squish down) then 1mm is totally fine.
