Almost ready to make my purchase of the XPS 15, just one last thing I'd like to know.

I definitely want Blu-ray on this system, but Dell doesn't list the details of the reader versus the writer. Does one read faster than the other? Is one quieter/more efficient than the other? Or is that stuff negligible? (If I got the writer, it would be for futureproofing, anyway, as I have no current desire to burn anything onto any BDs)

While I'm at it, I posted this in wireless and networking and received no response yet, but is there an advantage to choosing the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 over the Advanced-N 6230? I mean, the 6230 is only $15 more, so I'm just wondering why anyone would not choose it, unless they really cared about saving every dollar possible...

    Thanks for reading.

I don't know the specs on the reader vs. writer read/write speeds for CD's/DVD's/BD's, so I can't really comment on that one. I bought the writer for future proofing only, don't expect to use it anytime soon, but I want this to last a few years, and BD disks will be cheaper then.

As far as the wireless, definitely get the 6230. It uses two wireless streams and can provide double the bandwidth of the 1030, up to 300Mb/s vs. the 1030's 150Mb/s. You will need a router with two antenna's to get the full 300Mb/s. If you want 450Mb/s, get the 6300. It doesn't come with bluetooth though, and you'll need a router with three antenna's, like the Cisco E4200.

6230 it is (definitely want Bluetooth, as well), thanks.

Aye, I want the system to last a couple of years, as well. So, if there's a chance that I'll want to burn anything onto BD in that time period, it might be wise to get the writer now. Just wondering if it actually reads slower, or anything. I'll just go ahead and get the writer unless someone tells me it's worse somehow in the next hour or two. :]
