Had a look around and didn't see anything about this posted yet,
My wife has one of the new XPS 15 systems.
She has been finding that when it is left alone for a while and the screen shuts off, when she goes to use it again it hangs for about 30 seconds.
So the scenario is:
- Turn laptop on and use for a bit
- Leave it alone long enough for the screen to turn off (not just dim)
- Come back and move the mouse
- Screen turns on, but cannot move cursor
- No response from system (other than screen coming back on) for around 30 sec
- After around 30 sec the system is fine to use
This is happening when it is running from mains power, not sure about on battery as it is always plugged in.
The power settings are:
- set on "balanced"
- dim screen after 2 min
- turn screen off after 5 min
- never put the computer to sleep
- HDD off after 20 min
- other settings default
It's been happening since we received the system, I have updated all drivers to the latest on Dell's site but it is still happening.
Any insight or thoughts would be greatly appreciated![]()

Christmas Update:
The problem seems to be worse now as it seems to be stuck completely when it "wakes" now, with the only option to be holding the power button till it shuts off.
Occasionally it will hang then be usable after 30sec/1min but it usually does not become usable again.
One time on starting the computer it made 3 beeps which continued to play every few seconds (beep beep beep, pause, beep beep beep) and so on until the laptop was shutdown. It seemed to be running okay, just making those beeps. It has only done this once and not again.
Just wanted to update the info and see if there were any responses this time around!
