Everyone keeps talking about the crappy screen that comes with the XPS 15 720p. My question is that are all the 720p screens affected? If not, how can I tell which ones are the afflicted models?

What is supposedly crappy about them? I received mine yesterday, and as far as I can tell, it looks great. I'd MUCH rather have the 1080p screen but I have no quality complaints about my 720p.

Is it just a few bad apples that is causing the perception that all the 720p screens are terrible?

I don't think it would even be that, it's just a personal taste factor. When somebody has used a screen like an RGBLED at high resolution or the Radiance screens or anything of that nature a 720p low res screen isn't going to look as good to them. The 720p screens on the new XPS may not be as good as some other screens but they are still a good screen.

So whats all this about RGBLED screens? The 720p doesn't utilize that? Sorry I'm a newbie to this screen innovation.

RGBLED screens when compared to a standard LCD/LED are night and day difference in contrast and color vibrance, I can't explain to you exactly what the hardware differences are beyond the backlighting but I have a Vizio RGB LED tv and a standard LCD tv at home and I can tell you the first time I watched Avatar on the RGBLED I was blown away by the difference in the picture quality. The 720p screen is a WLED in the XPS 15 where as most people have compared it to the 1080p which is a R+BGLED(slightly less than a true RGBLED but close) so the quality especially in color vibrance and contrast is going to be a decent amount different.

You bet, all it comes down to is the 720p screen is a good screen, it may not be the best but it's good. Some people may want a better screen and the replacement isn't hard on the XPS model if you decide you want a higher quality screen.

Yeah I went for the 720p because I wanted the native resolution to be lower for intense games like SC2. But I'm considering on upgrading to 1080p but I wouldn't know where to look and I heard Dell is out of stock at the moment.

Someone else found an aftermarket panel that works that isn't too bad priced either, the 1080p can support 720p resolution in games as well and you get the added perk of higher resale value and cleaner looking movies. ;)
