Whenever I use the computer in my lap or anywhere else where it's not totally still, the AC cord easily comes loose from the back. This is highly annoying, and I'm not sure what to do about it now. I've already gotten one replacement adapter from Dell, because my first one frayed at the end (I guess from me constantly making sure it's "firmly" plugged in). Then, after reading about a right angle connector in this thread, I decided to buy it (of course making sure it'd be compatible with the XPS 15, since the thread was originally discussing the XPS 17). Well, I got the connector yesterday, and it doesn't work well--my connection still easily comes loose. I can even wobble the connection (with or without the right angle attachment) slightly with my hand...that can't be good.

So, my question is now...do I have a bad port? If not, what else explains the loose connection, and what should I do about it? It's highly annoying...I mean, when you spend $1000 on a laptop, you expect to not have to deal with these annoyances, right?

The power port on the XPS 15 and 17 are a known weak spot. The fit isn't great on most systems and can come loose easily. Plenty of people on here with that problem, mine's not great either. My guess is a cheap Chinese (advance apologies to any Chinese people here) uber-loose tolerance plug and socket is being used. Which means the size isn't going to fit correctly most of the time. (Sorry, being an engineer I do tolerances every day...kind of a pet peeve at times).

    Whether it's crap or not...

    It's the best.

    Why?

Because it's a swappable part and doesn't require any soldering.

My mother has lost 3 notebooks this way, which I could've fixed but am always out of the country or something.

Ironically I'm the one with the L502X and I've never broken a plugin.

    Hooray!
