I currently own a Dell XPS 15 L502X. I purchased it for around... 3 motnhs or so. After time, I noticed that on the screen, after about an hour of continuous usuage there is a dark transulcent region on my screen. Its more visible if you tilt the screen.

However, once i shut the laptop down, or put to sleep, after resting durations (about an hour again) it goes away. This problem keeps on occuring over and over again and always on the same location.

If someone could figure out why this is occuring and how to fix, itll be greatly appreciated.

Also that.. Audio stuttering problem that everyones having :(

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

I can't speak to the audio problem, but as someone that's had three displays replaced since May, I'm fairly certain they'll replace the glass for you. One of the issues I had, the display turned almost totally red. I took a photo and emailed it to them while I was in a chat session. If I was doing it again, I'd take several photos ahead of time, select the one that best portrayed the issue, and have that ready to send when I started the chat.

Another issue was a screen flashing lighter and darker, which couldn't be captured in a photo. It happened pretty consistently, but not till the laptop had warmed up. They took my word for it, and send out a replacement.

I've been on the fourth display for about two months now without issues. [Looking around for wood to knock on....]

Ah thanks for the reply. The problem is I should say not constant similar to the audio stuttering that majority is facing. The dark spot appears after long term use and dissapears after some rest. It essentially is not hot either at that area on the screen.

I would like to get it replaced but for now I cant since it is school season and I need some form of a computer to utilize haha. Thanks though. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks!

If you can take a picture when it's at it's worst and it shows up well in the picture, that would be helpful chatting with tech support. You might displaying various solid colors on your desktop to find one that makes if really noticable.

Do you have the onsite service warranty? If so, you can use it right up to the time the tech shows up with the replacement glass. You'd only be out about an hour at most. Unfortunately, I speak from too much experience.

Yea I dont think that I purchased the onsite warranty. Just probably the year or so warranty that came with it. I hope to get this and the audio fix soon. It seems that many people have been experiencing it :/ Thanks though !

I think when you order the XPS (at least in the US) , the lowest level of warranty that's offered is "In-Home service after remote diagnosis." Other models may require you to send your laptop away for servicing, and other companies for sure. I was looking at some HP models before I got my XPS-17, and one of the things that turned me off was that the basic warranty required you to send the laptop to HP for service.

I'm pretty sure you get the in-home service during your one year warranty. You can check it at the Dell support site using your service tag.

    For the audio issue, see
Dell XPS 15 - L502X - Some crackling sound coming from the speakers while playing Audio files/Video Desktop and Internet - Laptop Audio Forum - Laptop - Dell Community

If that doesn't work, chat Dell about that too, though I would recommend dealing with one issue at a time and getting it resolved before chatting them about the next. Wouldn't want to confuse them. Also, I think (no actual proof) that when they have a record of several issues on one machine over time, they're inclinded to make a offer sooner, or at least more willing to listen if you request a replacement.

You got the warranty, might as well use it, and if it's only good for a year, you'll need to get all the issues resolved in that time.
