First off I am new to this forum so I may stumble a bit. Exactly what type of signal is output from the s/pdif port on my laptop? Is it a optical or coaxial? If it is optical I should see the red light (or some light) coming from the port correct? I have plugged a 3.5 mm fiber toslink adapter in the s/pdif port but get no light from it. When I go to sound options - playback - the Realtek digital output icon shows - no device is plugged in. Is this output not enabled? Or do I need another type of cable? I am trying to connect a fiber optic cable from this port to a Turtle Beach X41 wireless headset.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Tom

It's optical. Setup: Realtek HD Audio Manager > Advanced > Jack Information.

So, is it confirmed that Dell XPS L502x - middle headphone 3.5mm port works with mini-toslink optical jack? Can I get 5.1 channel output to my speaker's optical-in?

Please advice the setup? What cable do I need?
